Through the years I have been good at recognizing when I am in what I refer to as a ‘downward spiral’. When trapped in the downward spiral, it just seems that one event after another is disastrous and right when I am down at my seemingly lowest point; I get hit again and again. I often have a pity party for myself and whine to the Lord and ask for
R-E-L-I-E-F!

I have not been so quick to recognize it when I am in an ‘upward spiral’ which is quite the opposite of the downward spiral, and with the upward spiral everything seems to go great with blessing after blessing being heaped upon me. No whining during the upward just big smiles and purring.

Currently I am enjoying an upward spiral. First and foremost my beautiful granddaughters arrived on Friday and although they were born nearly two months premature are healthy as is there mother (and father). If that was not enough in itself, I went to an eye, ear, and nose specialist and he told me the reason my ear was not getting any better was because the other two doctors had prescribed the wrong antibiotic for the particular bug that was attacking my inner ear. He gave me a new one and within a couple of days my ear was back to normal and all of the pain was gone and now I can hear again. Yesterday I went to church with one of my sons and daughter-in-law and heard my former pastor and friend of twenty years deliver one of his stirring messages and afterwards reminisced with him and his wife for a few minutes. Yep, it is definitely an upward spiral.

Life is full of ups and downs. Our lives are filled with trials and blessings. Through it all God remains right by our sides. I call on Him often when trapped in the downward spiral and I thank Him often for His many blessings when in the upward spiral. Through it all God remains steadfast and true. No one could ever have a better Father or Friend. I feel very fortunate and thankful for His love and compassion for me. As the old gospel song says, “For without Him I could do nothing”.

Psalm 91:2
I will say to the Lord, “He is
my refuge and fortress;
my God in Him will I trust.”
