I’m told that people at Horizon who have read WFTD for a long time always try to figure out who I’m talking about when I write about others. Indeed although I have never used anyone’s name, I have been threatened with lawsuits and physical violence against my person on more than one occasion when someone felt I was directly talking about them. Nothing has ever happened in that regard aside from some hard feelings on their parts, and I try very hard to write WFTD in such a way as to not implicate anyone that anyone else might know, (aside from my own personal family on occasion), when illustrating this devotional in relating things that I observe. I use real life incidents sometimes as I believe we can benefit from identifying with problems common to us all and then searching the Bible to find God’s solutions to them. I would ask folks not to try and figure out who’ I’m talking about and look deep at what’ I’m talking about.
OK now try to figure out who this person is if you can, (as I know you are not going to listen to me anyway). I know someone who is smart, as in above average intelligence. In the eyes of their peers this person is a good person and does not have any glaring bad habits. If pressed this person would probably admit that they believe that there is a God and He has a Son Jesus Christ but that they only attend church on occasion and rarely read the Bible. They are fairly young and do not spend much time at all thinking about their own death, the hereafter, or God for that matter. Most of this person’s time is devoted to their career and what is going on at work and their family. At home it is sometimes difficult. Stress weighs heavily on them and the daily struggles of making it through the days and weeks is difficult. They often worry. Unfortunately if you asked them how many true’ friends they have that would stick with them through the thick and thin’ of things, they would tell you that true’ friends are all but non-existent. This person cannot find real peace; not though work, friends, family, hobbies, or drinking to excess on the weekends.
Sound like you?
If so, know that there is a friend who will stick with you through the thick and the thin of it. He stands ready waiting for you to invite Him into your life. Once you do, there will be no need to worry because He has promised to be with you to the end of this earth and forever. Best of all He promises peace. His name is Jesus Christ.
Now I am talking about me. I was restless and discouraged. I actually felt my situation was hopeless and I was suicidal. I found God, or rather He found me and turned all of that around for me and now I know peace. One cannot find peace apart from God. If that profile above describes you or partially describes you, spend some more time thinking about God and trying to follow His teachings and watch your life blossom into everything God and you’ ever wanted for yourself. God offers peace that surpasses all understanding. The Bible states unequivocally that peace only comes from Him. That means you will not find peace when promoted at work, you will not find it in your bank account, or in buying that big home or fancy car. It does not come out of a pill bottle or a beer bottle, or on television. Peace comes from drawing close to God and trusting Him with your very lifeThe Bible states that life is short and full of trouble; therefore we need a friend to help us get though it. Turn to God to relieve that pressure and lighten your burden.
Romans 5:1
Therefore having been justified
by faith, we have peace with
God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
