Most people do not have a problem acknowledging that there is a God and do not hesitate to engage in discussion about Him, yet when it comes to satan they are much more reluctant to discuss the subject. Somehow stories about the “devil” and images of a silly looking red character with horns coming out of his head and a forked tail emerge and the notion does not seem real and many people ridicule it. The Bible makes it clear who satan is and emphasizes how powerful and dangerous he is. In fact it states that he has tremendous supernatural powers and that we are no match for him. Satan, the fallen “angel of light”, was created higher than any other creature aside from God Himself and is said to be beautiful. When he aspired to overthrow God he was banished from heaven, but apparently was allowed to take those powers with him as did his fellow fallen angels involved with the rebellion against God which entailed one third of all of the angels in heaven. Satan was given dominion over this earth.
Satan should not be taken lightly. Even the powerful archangel Michael when battling against satan about the body of Moses dared not personally bring against satan reviling accusations but said, “The Lord rebuke you”. Our only hope of defeating such a powerful army of demons led by satan is to team up with God just like the great and powerful archangel Michael did. Satan is no match for God and it is through Him we can win this intense and deadly spiritual war for our very souls.
The world is conducting an intense war against terrorism. It is very serious and it is doubtful that any but the extreme remote societies of this world are not cognizant of the all-out war against terrorism and its danger to our society and way of life. How much more so should we be engaged in the all out war that satan wages for our eternal lives? Winning the war begins with putting on the “Armor of God” which consists of daily Bible study, prayer, and joining together regularly to worship with other Christians.
Satan has powerful weapons at his disposal yet our “armor” can protect us against them. He uses temptation as a primary tool to lure us into living lives filled with sin which ultimately leads to misery and death and without Jesus Christ it lasts for eternity. Just as terrorists attack heavily used roads and places where maximum effect can be had against large numbers of people, satan does likewise. His targets include schools and institutions of higher learning where teachers and professors can fill our children’s minds with doubt. He loves the media and the big influencer of society Hollywood. You will see him practically anytime you visit the Internet. He is even active in some churches. He uses sex, violence, pornography, drugs, alcohol, money and material possessions as tools to lure us into his trap.
At this point you might be saying “Whew! How can anyone survive?” As we look to the Bible for answers to our fears, we find that we should not lead our lives in fear. First and most importantly we must remember that God loves us. In fact He loves us so much that he gave His only Son to die an excruciating death on the cross for our sakes. We are assured that we are not lost in the teeming humanity and billions that fill the earth; indeed the very hairs on our heads are numbered and God knows us more intimately than our closest confidant. The Bible tells us that not a sparrow can fall to the ground without God seeing it and we are far more valuable to Him than sparrows. God has promised that if we resist satan, “he will flee” from us and that he will be with us “ALWAYS”.
We already know the outcome of the war as it is carefully prophetically laid out for us in the Bible. God will be victorious and one day will put to rest satan’s furious last stand against God and His children. There will be battles for sure but we will be victorious and enjoy peace that surpasses human understanding forever provided we continue to stand with God.
If you feel you are slipping in the battle in an area, powerful prayer will mean a tremendous amount, as will Bible study and conversation and prayer with other Christians. We are all in this together and with God on our side we are invincible!
1 Peter 5:6
Therefore humble yourselves
under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time,
casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because
your adversary the devil walks
about like a roaring lion, seeking
whom he may devour.
Resist him, steadfast in the faith,
knowing that the same sufferings
are experienced by your brotherhood
in the world.
But may the God of all grace,
who called us to eternal glory
by Christ Jesus, after you have
suffered a while, perfect, establish,
strengthen, and settle you.
The real terrorist
