I dreamed last night that I was fighting pretty much all night long. I woke up tired and pretty tense from all of the night’s activity. This morning I was musing about when I used to be a redneck and have real fights on a fairly routine basis. Thankfully I retired from that life.
My nose has stayed much straighter as a result of my reformation and my hands and knuckles have not been broken in decades.
As I was browsing my Bible this morning I came across a verse that reminded me of my former lifestyle and dream. Many fights that I got in while I was in high school were really not of my own making. I had a little skinny kid that I befriended that could get a fight started quicker than a cat could jump on a couch. He would start them and I would finish them, (or they would finish me). This little guy would pop off to someone bigger than he was and when I heard him arguing I would come along and tell them to quit picking on that little guy and try some of me. (Yes I was a true redneck!) Usually it resulted in big problems as in being hauled away by the police and/or suffering bodily damage while exacting the same on someone else; all of this while my little friend who started it all went home unscathed.
Most folks are not rednecks and have never been in a fight and never will, but the same logic applies. The Bible tells us to mind our own business in order to avoid big problems and getting hurt. Good advice…
Proverbs 26:17
He who passes by and meddles
in a quarrel not his own
is like one who takes a dog by
the ears.
