I watched a little kid go into a sporting goods store the other day and it was amazing how this little joker mimicked everything his dad did.
He would look at his dad and adjust his hat like his, he walked like him, and everything his dad picked up to look at the little kid did likewise. He was following him all over the store looking up at him often. He looked and acted like a miniature of his father, it was amazing.
I heard the other day that 82% of all teenagers will drink alcohol if their parents drink. 72% say no if their parents do not drink. I would imagine the same applies to other things such as using profanity, or racial slurs. Statistics indicate that kids who are abused themselves are inclined to abuse their own kids. Most preachers I know were raised by Godly parents. If the parents are avid football fans, racing fans, or perhaps avid fishermen or hunters, or couch potatoes, generally kids follow their parents. If the parents are righteous people that could be good; if not, it could spell disaster. In fact kids need a hero and that should be the parents. What kind of hero are you to your kids? Are you too hung over on Sunday morning to take them to Sunday School? It is one thing to live your own life in the direction of destruction with little regard for God and following His commands, and it is another to lead your children down that same path.
As parents we have a responsibility to train up our kids in the Lord.
If you love them you will do so…
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he
should go,
And when he is old he will not
depart from it.
