I attended Sunday school this Sunday and we had a guest teacher. He stirred quite a controversy with his subject matter. Basically it sounded as if his belief system is that good works will get one into Gods millennial kingdom. He was not advocating that ones salvation comes from good works or that one would lose it completely without good works; however if we do not earn enough good works, we must wait 1000 years to join our Lord and Savior. He did not explain where people would wait during this period of time, but it does not really matter, this is not Biblical at least according to my interpretation of the Bible.
Jesus told the thief on the cross, Assuredly I say to you, TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise. This thief had no good works. Galatians 2:16 clearly states that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith. Of course when one truly accepts Christ, good works should naturally follow. If we do not have any good works it is prudent to revisit whether or not we have truly accepted the Lord as our Savior, repented of our sins and changed our lives and started following the Lord. In short good works are as natural to a born-again Christian as bacon is to eggs. If one does not have them, one must question their very salvation.
Christians will be judged, and crowns distributed. Well all be in heaven, but saints and saintly people will have special recognition in heaven for their work in this world. Be very careful about thinking or teaching that good works have anything to do with earning the right to appear with the Lord. It is not what we did on this earth, but what HE did. When we accepted Christ we died and our life is hidden with Christs sacrifice. Thank God for it, because God looks on us and our good works as filthy rags without Christs blood covering.
One other thing, do not just blindly accept everything you hear in church or otherwise. The true test is the Bible. What does the Bible, Gods infallible holy Word, say about such matters? This is another very important reason that we must study the Bible for ourselves.
Col. 3:2
Set your mind on things above,
not on the things on earth.
For you died, and your life is
hidden with Christ in God.
When Christ who is our life
appears, then you also will appear with
Him in glory.
How well do you know the bible?
Romans 11:5-10 states:
Even so then, at this present
time there is a remnant according to
the election of grace.
And if by grace, then it is no
longer of works; otherwise grace is
no longer grace. But if it is of works,
it is no longer grace; otherwise work
is no longer work.
How big was the remnant of Gods people who had not bowed the knee to the idol Baal?
