Who was Jesus

Yesterday I received a question, Are Jesus and God the same person or is Jesus an Agent for God? Since Jesus is the Son of God, how can people use him interchangeably with God? Jesus even prayed to God. The answer is Jesus and God are one, but they are not the same person, because God is not a person. We were created in Gods image. Mankind is created with a body, soul and a spirit. The Bible teaches us that God is threefold too; God the Father, God the Son, (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit; they are one, but distinct.

We are all descendants of Adam; however Jesus is the descendant of God. He was conceived through the supernatural power of God Himself and born of the Virgin Mary. He was not descended from Adam and did not inherit sin like the rest of us; however Jesus was born of human flesh. He walked this earth as we do and was tempted in every way as we are tempted, yet He withstood the temptation and led a perfect holy life which made Him the perfect unblemished sacrifice for the sins of the world. The Bible states that all things were originally created by Jesus and for Jesus and that in the beginning He was right there. Later He left His throne and came to the world to offer salvation.

He prayed to God, yet he is God. Jesus was sent to us in the flesh for several purposes. The most important was to provide a means to re-establish fellowship with Him through His blood sacrifice. Another was to set examples. He was flesh and He set examples for flesh. He prayed often. Once when he was resurrecting Lazarus, (John 11:41), He stated, Father I thank you that you have heard Me, and I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by, I said this, that they may believe that you sent Me. Jesus was God, but He was flesh. The flesh is weak and needs prayer and through it Gods help. Jesus set this example for us.

This concept is admittedly difficult to understand because we are not created equal to God. We have difficulty understanding Spirit and there are mysteries that must be accepted through faith. When someone dies their clay shell of a body is left, yet it is obvious when the lifeless shell is viewed that their soul and spirit are gone. We cannot see soul or spirit but it is there just the same. For example God can be anywhere and everywhere throughout all of creation at once, (omnipresent), even while He may sit on His throne in heaven. I envision this to be like a radio or TV signal. We cannot see it, but it is everywhere, and yet it originates and is being broadcast from a home base station. God can sit on His throne in heaven, walk the earth as Jesus did, inhabit our bodies as the Holy Spirit does, and be in outer space tending to His space garden all at the same time. How you ask? Good question. . .

The question from agnosticism is,

Who turned on the lights?

The question from faith is,

Whatever for?

John 14:19

A little while longer and the

world will see Me no more, but

you will see me. Because I live

you will live also.

At that day you will know that

I am in My Father, and you in Me,

and I in you.

How well do you know the Bible?

A very famous saying of Jesus is, And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. The Jews to whom He was speaking stated that they were descendants of Abraham and had never been in bondage to anyone, so how could He say, You will be made free, when they were already free? Jesus responded. What was His answer?

John 8:34
