I have watched some exciting football lately and commentary from every angle. One thing that was rather interesting was an interview with one of the NFL coaches. He stated that he felt sorry for people who played individual sports like golf because they did not get to experience the thrill of being part of a team. In his case it was working in unison with a team of men all with the common goal of getting to the Super Bowl. They experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat together.
I went to Sunday school this Sunday and it was exhilarating. It was the same concept. We were a group of men who love the Lord coming together with a common purpose to worship the Lord. We studied the word of God together, we prayed together, we laughed together, we encouraged each other together, we sang a hymn together, and we lamented the loss of one of our members to a heart attack over the holiday weekend together. The key word is together. It is better being together than being alone. Another bonus is the Bible states that whenever two or more gather in His name, Jesus Christ is right there among us. You will be together with Jesus Christ Himself whenever you attend church or Bible Study. What a team to be on!
I hope that each of you is enjoying the benefits of being on Gods team and are enrolled in a Bible study class that you enjoy. If you are not currently enrolled in one, why not search one out beginning immediately? Be advised that it might take two or more visits to find the one that is right for you; such was the case for me. Please believe me it is well worth the effort! It almost goes without saying but Ill say it anyway, you will not find a Sunday school class or even a church that is perfect either. Only God is perfect, not the men or women who worship Him and attend church, not the ones who are leaders at church. (This is true of football teams and everything else on this planet too.) When you attend, accept the fact that improvements can, and in many cases need to be made. Perhaps you can become part of the leadership and make it happen…
Matt. 18:20
For wherever two or three are
gathered
together in my name, I am
there in the midst of them.
How well do you know the Bible?
Jesus and His disciples were celebrating what Jewish holiday when the Lords Supper was instituted? Hint it was very appropriate as Christ would be crucified and shed His blood as a perfect Lamb sacrifice for the sins of all of humanity in a matter of days.
Luke 22:15
