Practically everyone that I know is on a diet. I am happy to see it because just about everyone is seeing good results from their efforts and they are looking great and feeling better about themselves. I know people on the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet, Metabolics and Weight Watchers. It is interesting that foods recommended on one diet are opposite those recommended on another diet and in fact are considered akin to poison. They all seem to work though.

My feeling is that the most important aspect of controlling weight primarily boils down to three things, eat less and partake of small portions, exercise, and avoid alcohol. Another thing is to quit eating when full. Most restaurants super size everything, in order, I believe, to justify charging what they charge. Many people have the idea that they must keep eating until their plate is clean. This means that they keep gorging until every bite of every morsel is gone and then they pre-wash the plate by swabbing it down with a piece of bread which is also devoured. Americans are super sizing and dutifully cleaning their plates to their deaths.

Recently I met with a top government official who told me in a very serious manner that our country would run out of hospital beds by 2020 because of the large number of patients needing care for obesity related problems, unless something is done. He indicated that it was a national emergency. Indeed $95 billion is currently being spent by Medicare alone for this problem. That is a tremendous amount of money and a huge problem. (Get it? Huge. .. .) People are dying from combining overeating with a sedentary lifestyle of no exercise.

The Bible tells us that our body is a temple and that we should treat it as such. God, (the Holy Spirit), actually resides in the body of a Christian. What kind of housing are you providing? Do you worship your belly or the Lord? Do you glorify the Holy Spirit with your body? Another thing the Bible teaches is that we should do everything in moderation. Eating a pizza and then the extra pizza and cinnamon sticks they add as a bonus and then guzzling down a couple of six packs is not moderation. One thing I recommend if you are having trouble staying on a diet is to pray about it and ask God to give you the strength and willpower that you need to resist stuffing yourself silly and to get off the couch and onto the treadmill for a nice brisk walk of run. He loves you and will answer this prayer..

1 Cor.6:19

Or do you not know that your

body is the temple of the Holy Spirit

who is in you, whom you have from

God, and you are not your own?

For you were bought at a price;

therefore glorify God in your body

and in your spirit which are Gods.

How well do you know the Bible?

Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge,

but he who hates correction is ___________. Fill in the blank.

Proverbs 12:1
