I was flipping through the Bible looking for inspiration as I sometimes do and I kept coming to passages about helping out the poor. I believe that God is leading me to do something positive in that realm. Some might look at this as sheer coincidence, but after years of trying to discern exactly what God wants me to do, I have become accustomed to feeling the pull of God when action is needed on my part. Bible flipping more often than not will provide the exact scripture that I need to soothe whatever may be bothering me. Often I turn to it immediately. It follows that God may not only comfort us, but might lead us to action in the same manner. If you have never tried this, then I recommend that you give it a try. Be forewarned that it leads to spiritual goose bumps when you see the exact answer that you are looking for and feel Gods presence. If you really believe the Bible is correct and that God is a personal God, and He wants us to come to Him about everything, as is clearly spelled out in the Bible, then you will not at all be surprised when He fully delivers on that promise and you feel His holy presence standing next to you as you read His Holy Word.
Regarding the poor, I refuse to give money to street people as it nearly always buys drugs or alcohol. I am going to try and find a very needy individual or family through our church and anonymously help them out in the very near future. If you do not have much do not worry, often just paying someones light bill or getting their prescriptions filled for the month can help out enormously. I hope that you might do as I am going to do and find someone less fortunate and anonymously help them out. The Bible has much to say about helping the poor and the bottom line is that we should do it. God has already blessed you and me enormously and He will continue to do so if we obey His commands. The hardest part might be finding a truly needy person or group of people. This will take a little effort. In my case, I delegate it to my wife, I wouldnt want her to miss out on a nice blessing.
The hardest thing about it is to: just do it! The Bible has something to say about doers vs. hearers…
James 1:22
But be doers of the word and
not hearers only, deceiving
yourselves.
How well do you know the Bible?
What is described as the Royal Law in the Bible?
James 2:8
