Quarrel not!

The Bible is very clear that we should not quarrel and argue. Some people seem to thrive on argument. In fact a well known attorney recently wrote a popular book on how to argue and win. Indeed many television shows now exclusivelycenter their themes uponhosting”experts” from the right and the left with heated arguments as the main course. Personally I dislike hearing arguments and/or participating in them. I think most people are in that category.

If you seem to thrive upon arguing, carefully consider what your Father in heaven says about it below. Most dyed-in-the-wool “arguementists” will probably argue with whatGod Himself has to say about the subject.I once told an argumentative employee who always resisted everything he was told to just hush for a moment and use his mind to THINK.. I related to this person that it is virtually impossible to win an argument with his boss. Even when he wins he loses. Think about it, this is not just for employee/boss type arguments. This is for most any argument.. What does one really gain from “winning” an argument? What tangible reward does one gain? The Bible refers to it as “foolish and ignorant” and as “generating strife”. Becoming foolish and ignorant and generating strife is not the type gainfor which most people arelooking.

What about those of us who want to witness to non-believers?We should try to win them over with gentle persuasion, and lose the brash in-your-face-mouth-to-mouth-combat approach. I have had many discussions with non-believers that could be classified as arguments. I do not know how many I have won or lost, but the stakes are really high for these debates. Eternal is FOREVER and when I state that the stakes are high, I mean they do not get any higher or moreimportant.Heaven and/or Hell FOREVER hang in the balance!

I always try to center my arguments upon the Bible.It is not what “I” say that is important, it is what GOD has to say that should be the most important to us. The Bible teaches that ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim:3:16; Base your arguments upon scripture BUT…do it gently, “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching.” 2 Tim.4:2
