Recently I was talking with someone who was contemplating getting a divorce. He told me that he was “tired” of dealing with it. He told me that he heard that some states now allow divorce over the Internet. The divorce rate now stands at 52% or thereabouts. When I was young, most states required at least a one totwo year process to get a divorce. It was not easy and often the cooling off period prevented divorce. A 52% divorce rate is quite a statement about marriage and the ease of getting out of marriage in this country; more than half of the marriages fail! It is fast and it is easy to turn your back on vows that state, “Until death do us part”.
I told this person that marriage was sacred and binding according to God. Aside from renouncing solemn vows it leads to serious sin. Jesus Himself spoke out against it, saying that if the divorce is due to anything other than sexual immorality, it causes the divorced entities to commit adultery. Divorce is sin, plain and simple. Adulterous sin that is so serious, that in Jesus’ day,the punishment for it was death by stoning.
I have been married 32 years. I cannot say that it was always easy and that occasionally both my wife and I got “tired” of it, but we weathered the storms of life together and have a happy successful marriage. We both had to learn to live with our respective faults. I believe that this premise is very important. I also believe that we must eliminate divorce as an option. We can politely debate, scream and yell, pull hair, bite, pinch, curse, use fists, guns, or knives, but divorce will not be an option. When you agree to get married, agree that the word divorce will never be mentioned.
If you are at the brink of divorce, and/or satan is planting the seed for it in your heart, I ask you to seek counseling and whatever you do WORK IT OUT! One cannot defy God, nor His laws AND NOT PAY A SERIOUS PRICE..Just as divorce was acceptable to mankind in Jesus’ day, it might be socially acceptable now, as is abortion, but itis wrong and was condemned by Jesus Himself. Marriage is sacred and binding to the Lord. You can and should make your marriage successful. Work hard at marriage and you will be continually blessed. I would not want it any other way than to be married to my wife of 32 years.

Furthermore it has been said
Whoever divorces his wife, let him
give her a certificate of divorce.
But I say to you that whoever
divorces his wife for any reason
except sexual immorality causes her
to commit adultery; and whoever
marries a woman who is divorced
commits adultery.
