The Bible has much to say about the rich and at first glance one might think that a rich person could not attain eternal life. Not so fast, the Bible does not say that it is impossible; it does say however that it is difficult. Why? I believe that it is because there is too much temptation and most rich people tend to focus on the wealth and not on the Lord. Remember that the Bible teaches that it is the “Love” of money, not money that is the root of all evil. Wealth can be intoxicating and can dominate one’s life if caught up in it. Throughout the Bible many of God’s favorite people such as Abraham and David had enormous wealth. This is the clearest proof to me that wealth is not a curse. Indeed itcan be a blessing to those who understand that it is temporary and is a blessing from God and consequently use it to help others and to support the ministry of Christ.

You might be saying to yourself that this WFTD does not apply to you because you are neither wealthy nor do you anticipate that you ever will be wealthy. Hold on a minute, by “world” standards you and most everyone in the United Statesare exceedingly wealthy. God has blessed this great nation with the highest standard of living since the creation. We have air conditioning, telephones, automobiles, stereo, refrigeration, electricity, plenty of food, television and video games 🙂 Even Solomon did not have that.

Don’t let your wealth distract you. Anything that takes your eye off of the Lord as being number one in your life is a curse. Use your wealth to glorify the Lord and watch God increase it. Use your wealth for your own fantasies and watch it bring you down.

1 Timothy 6:17
Command those who are rich in
this present age not to be haughty,
nor to trust in uncertain riches, but
in the living God, who gives us richly
all things to enjoy.
Let them do good, that they be
rich in good works, ready to give,
ready to share.
Storing up for themselves a
good foundation for the time to
come, that they may lay hold on eternal
life.
