It is my sincere belief that everyone should study the Bible at least a little each day. WFTD will take on a new look as I encourage you to go with me through the Bible beginning with the New Testament. A reader recently suggested that I offer a little test each day and today, you will be tested on how well you know the Bible. Please let me know if you enjoy this new approach to sharing God’s Word, or if you wish to continue in the old WFTD style.

Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and it was written by Matthew, a Jew, who wrote to his countrymen using Old Testament quotations, prophecies, genealogies, and documentation of miracles to convince them that Jesus is King. Jesus fulfilled many prophecies, one being that He would be born of the line of David through Mary. Another He would be born of a virgin. Also He would be born in Bethlehem, where three wise men were drawn by a star to His birthplace whereby they could worship Him. Each book of the four gospels adds information about essentially the same subject, but from another writer’s perspective. Little details omitted from one book can be found in another. Related passages can be found down the middle of the page in most Bibles and are useful when studying the word of God. Remember the object is not just to read the Bible, but to “study” it, so use this reference section and take your time going through it. The following quiz comes from the first two chapters of Matthew and related passages.

Quiz:
1. An angel appeared to Joseph to announce that Mary would conceive Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Name the angel that appeared to them.

A. Gabriel
B. Michael
3. Beelzebub
Luke 1:26

1. Joseph and Mary ended up going to Bethlehem because they were ordered to go there for a census. Who ordered them to go?

A. Caesar
B. Herod
C. Pontius Pilot
Luke 2:1

2. All of the three wise men brought Jesus gifts that signified something about His future. One brought Myrrh. This treasure would have been an odd gift to give to a baby because it was associated with death and preparing bodies for burial; however Jesus was born into this world for the express purpose of dying on a cross for our sins and thereby was appropriate. The other wise men brought gifts that were significant about His life too. What did they bring? What did their gifts represent?

Matt. 2:11

3. Satan tried to kill Jesus using a demonic king as his tool. When told that a “King” had been born in Bethlehem, in an effort to remove this threat from “his” kingdom, this olden day Saddam Hussein cruelly ordered every male child under two years of age to be put to death. Joseph and Mary were warned ahead of time by an angel of the Lord in a dream to take Jesus to Egypt to escape the carnage. This was foretold by one of the prophets predicting “lamentations, weeping, and great mourning” in Ramah.

Who was that prophet?
A. Amos
B. Jeremiah
C. Daniel
Matt. 16

Who was the king?
A. Herod
B. David
C. Ahab
Matt. 16
