Have you ever tried to succeed with something and it seems like the harder you try, the harder it gets? Sometimes, but not always, this just might be an indication that we have not chosen the path that God prefers that we take. I have never accomplished anything significant whereby it was easy, and I am not talking about the ordinary difficult trials and tribulations that we all face in solving life’s big problems.
Someone has wisely said, “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.
I’m talking about those times in life whereby, in trying to accomplish some significant goal, “EVERYTHING” that we try ends up in a dead end.
At every turn we are stymied and absolutely nothing seems to turn out right in spite of our best efforts. Again I am not talking about situations that stir the old memory of, “These are the times that try men’s souls”. I know first hand that very hard work, sacrifice, persistence in the “line of fire”, patience, and determined problem solving are prerequisites in accomplishing great things; however there are times when, if we are observant, it will be obvious to us that God does not want us to travel down the path we have chosen. In spite of giving it our best, we simply cannot make the slightest progress, much less win.
I always try to pray and ask God to show me the way that He wants me to go. Since He does not openly reveal His will for our lives and thunder down His answer, we must listen very carefully. I think that it is difficult to know the will of God, but one sure sign that I am heading down the wrong path is falling flat on my face at every turn. If that happens to me, I re-evaluate my objective and try to discern whether or not this is something that “GOD” wants, or something that “I” want personally. If I become convinced that it is not the will of God that I move forward, I quickly abandon my plan. It is not easy to give up on some projects, especially when we strongly believe in them, but it is harder to fight a battle that we cannot win. Basically if the Lord is not behind us or our projects, we cannot succeed.
I guess the bottom line is to get down on the old arthritic knees, or young knees if you are fortunate enough to have them, and ask the Lord what He wants you to do with your situation. If convinced that you are within the will of God, then ask Him to help you out with the project and open some of those doors that keep getting slammed in your face. If convinced that you are within the will of God but that it will continue to be incredibly difficult in order to teach you patience and perseverance or whatever other reason the Lord has in store for you, then ask Him to at least give you peace with the “decision”. We belong to God, and we are here on this earth to accomplish His purpose for our lives. To achieve best results with our lives, we must accomplish what He wants us to accomplish. God probably will not make it too easy to accomplish your significant dream, but He will give you peace with the decision, provided you actively try to do everything that you can to make Him the biggest part of the decision making process and you will put aside your personal ambition in deference to Him.
