Often we are too critical of those around us. This can become a habit if we do not stay vigilant. It is easy to find fault in others, but often difficult to recognize that we too have faults along with every other human being on this planet. Jesus tells us many times not to judge others. He used a parable whereby he asked why we should worry about a splinter in someone’s eye when we have a board in our own.

I believe that is one thing that drives non-Christians away; particularly if the person doing the criticizing does not “walk the walk”, and instead simply “talks the talk”. Most of us cannot “walk the walk” all of the time, and it might be better to keep our mouths shut rather than appear as a hypocrite. Yes you should lovingly encourage someone, but being judgmental is not our job. God is the judge, not us.

John 8:7
…He who is without sin
among you, let him throw a stone
at her first.
