I became a believer because of the Bible. Ever since I first read it until now, reading the Bible on a daily basis gives me much pleasure. I often “flip” through the Bible until I feel led to stop and read a verse. Invariably it is something very meaningful to me at that particular time. If I am discouraged, it stops on a verse that encourages me. If I have a problem, it stops on the very solution to my particular problem. Sometimes the hair will stand up on the back of my neck and tears will form in my eyes, when I open the Bible to the very verse that addresses my problem. It is quite a moving experience.
Through the years I have called my wife in to the room and asked her to witness such occurrences. Unbelievers will chalk up experiences like this to coincidence, but after thirty years of experiencing this I know that it is not coincidence. It is God talking to me.
The Bible is living. How can a book be living? Reread the foregoing.
You will find all of the answers to life within its covers. Each time that you read something, you will understand it more, or in a different way. If you have not made it a habit to read the Bible daily, then I urge you to do so. Find a quiet place and a quiet time and approach it as having an opportunity to converse with God Himself. Pray for understanding. Be prepared for an enjoyable peaceful experience.
I am often asked where to begin and what type of Bible to read. I prefer modern translations such as the International version, or New King James. I really like the Living Bible. Some strict interpreters say it is not 100% accurate, but having read every version of which I have heard cover to cover through the years, I can personally attest to the fact that I cannot tell any difference. It is quite enjoyable to read because it is in today’s common language. You do lose some of the poetry aspects I guess. If you are new to this, I would urge you to start in the New Testament. I particularly like John, Romans, James, Peter and all of the Gospels, especially Matthew. The Old Testament set the stage for Jesus. Much of it deals with prophesy of Jesus Christ and His life. In essence it prepares the world for the coming of our Savior.
It is difficult to understand initially, but becomes more clear with study.
If you do not read the Bible you are really missing out on perhaps the most important aspect of Christian life aside from accepting Christ as your Savior. The Bible is God’s vehicle for communication with us. It will help you immensely, if you will just let it.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and
powerful, and sharper than any
two edged sword, piercing even to
the division of soul and spirit, and
of joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
And there is no creature hidden
from His sight, but all things are
naked and open to the eyes of Him
to whom we must give account.
