Do you ever do any good deeds? We cannot follow Christ’s example unless we do good deeds. It is a very rewarding experience to help others.
Aside from leading a lost person to Christ, I don’t know of many things that we can do as Christians that will bring us much more joy. Jesus states in the Bible that when we do something to help the sick, poor, downtrodden etc. that we are in actuality doing it for Him. God rewards good deeds far in excess of what we contribute; however this reward will not be forthcoming unless the good deed is performed in secret. If we do good deeds, we should keep it to ourselves. Good deeds should be done to please God, not to make others think we are something special. I believe the only exception to this rule is possibly to let someone else know what you have done in order to set an example for someone else.
Even then one should be careful about it and do it sparingly. God’s everwatching eyes do not miss a single good deed that we perform. He is the one whom we should be trying to please by following the examples that Christ set for us.

Matt. 6:1
Take heed that you do not do
your charitable deeds before
men, to be seen by them. Otherwise
you have no reward from your
Father in heaven.
Therefore when you do a
charitable deed, do not sound a trumphet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men.
Assuredly, I say to you, they
have their reward.
But when you do a charitable
deed, do not let your left hand know
what your right hand is doing,
that your charitable deed may
be in secret; and your Father who
sees in secret will Himself reward
you openly.
