I was in Miami yesterday. After a grueling appointment with a tough crowd, I went down to the beach. The ocean is very interesting to watch. One thing that stands out in my mind about it is that it never rests! Waves are constantly coming in and going out, pockets of sea-water swirl for a moment and then disappear, only to reappear moments later. I sometimes feel like my life is like that. Constantly going from one city and/or project to yet another, and another, and another and then seemingly ending up right back where I started. The Bible states that God is always watching as we make our way through life. I have often visualized what that must look like to Him. He has to be shaking His head and sighing at times, laughing at others, sometimes sad, sometimes angry. I don’t believe that God is distant and far off from us sitting on a cloud somewhere, whereby we appear to Him as millions of ants scurrying to and fro. The Bible states that God knows us personally. He knows everything that there is to know about us including our strengths and weaknesses and even right down to the very number of hairs on our heads. Nothing that we do, or even think, escapes Him. He was walking with me on that beach and He is with me right now as I write these words. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit dwells within our body. He wants an even closer relationship with us, but we have to want the same with Him.

The Bible states that Jesus will give us rest if we will come to Him.
He will shoulder our burdens and we can rest. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like an excellent idea to me. I am going to make a bigger effort to do just that. Unlike the ocean, I do not have unlimited energy, I get really tired. I will ask God to give me rest.
There is a great gospel song entitled, “Just a closer walk with Thee”.
If I want true rest that is what will have to occur and that is what I am going to pray for right now. There is another gospel song entitled, “Only Believe”. That is what has to happen next if we really want peace of mind and God’s pure and comforting rest for our souls. We have to believe that God will answer our prayers. I feel better already!

____________
Matthew 11:28
Come to Me all you who labor
and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and
learn from Me, for I am gentle and
lowly in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and My
burden is light.
