Learn from mistakes

We should all try to avoid mistakes, but when one happens we should also realize that it is not the end of the world. I have often said that if one never make a mistake then they cannot be doing very much. Aside from Jesus Christ no one ever lived on this earth without making mistakes. The important thing is do we learn from it and not make the same mistake again. The first time it can most often be chalked up to simply making an honest mistake. After that it becomes a stupid mistake.

By the way we don’t have to make some mistakes for ourselves, particularly young people who will listen to their elders. Someone has rightly said that “we should learn from the mistakes of others, we won’t live long enough to make them all ourselves”. I made plenty of stupid, idiotic mistakes as a young person. Fortunately my sons listened to me and avoided making the same mistakes that got me in so much trouble.

Life is all about choices. We should try our best to avoid poor choices, but when we make one, we should make amends as best we can and move forward with a solid determination to never make that mistake again. I think that it is unhealthy to dwell too long on past mistakes.
If we repent and ask forgiveness, God forgives us. We should do likewise and forgive ourselves.
