I wanted to pass on some very good news, in fact it is great news. Dr.
James Merritt who happens to be the pastor of the church that I belong, 1st Baptist Church – Snellville Ga., was elected as President of the Southern Baptist convention this week. This is the second largest Protestant organization, second only to the Catholic Church. Currently there are approximately 16 million members. I am proud to say that Dr.
Merritt is a personal friend of mine in addition to his being my pastor.
He is a good person who is very bright. He is not an apologist – someone who apologizes for what the Bible teaches. He will boldly stand by God’s laws and principles that are clearly laid out in the Bible, regardless of how much the liberal press will howl. I know for a fact that he is a compassionate person and does not hate anyone; however he does hate sin and he will call sin exactly what it is – sin, regardless if Wolf Blitzer, Sam Donaldson Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Hugh Hefner, or anyone else dislikes it. He will no doubt offend many in the press, Hollywood, Studio 54, the Whitehouse and elsewhere. He will speak out against homosexuality, abortion, racism, and other hot topics. Various and sundry “rights” groups will not like it, but he will serve this organization and most importantly God well. I ask you to join me and pray for him daily as he provides spiritual guidance to this important body of believers. I’m sure Satan has mounted his dark forces against Dr. Merritt and would like to take him down. Prayer can stop him cold.

1John 14
Now this is the confidence that
we have in Him, that if we ask any-
thing according to His will, He hears
us.
And if we know that He hears us,
whatever we ask, we know that we
have the petitions that we have
asked of Him.
