Yesterday my wife was brought to recovery after surgery. Prior to going to see her I met with her doctor and he said the operation went fine. So I was expecting her to look great.

Boink!

Wrong!

She was heavily sedated and sleeping but her face was blue. I’ve seen several dead people in my lifetime and their faces had the same coloration.

Gulp!

I quickly looked at her vital signs on the monitor and they looked normal. Unconvinced, I put my thumb on her neck and checked her pulse.

Normal!

Her hands felt cold and she looked dead to me.

I thought, “What the heck is going on here?”

The recovery room nurse came in and explained that they had injected blue dye into her in order to identify which lymph node to take out. It seems that our bodies have a “Sentinel” node and that is the first place cancer cells go as it begins to spread through our bodies. The blue dye colors and identifies which node it is in order for the surgeon to know which one to remove. The blue dye also colors the face for a day or two which explained why it had turned blue. The nurse and I had a good laugh about my thinking she was dead or dying.

So it was a light hearted moment in a serious situation. We will find out Tuesday if the cancer has spread after the node has been sent to pathology and checked for microscopic cancerous cells. Right now things look swell.

I was pretty amazed in learning of all of the techniques that are being used down to the molecular level to fight cancer. It is fascinating to learn how our bodies were designed and how doctors are mapping out all that God has done.

I look forward to learning more from Jesus about the design of our bodies after I go toe up. So many folks dread leaving this world, but I absolutely look forward to it. What a great adventure it will be. I’m in no hurry as I want to finish strong and fulfill my mission, especially in leading others to a relationship with Christ, but I do think it will be fascinating.

Today is Good Friday. Jesus suffered terribly before being resurrected, but His suffering is over and today we are the beneficiaries. No doctor will ever contribute more than He did in three days.

Sunday is the best day of the year, because death and sin were defeated. Some reading this won’t even bother going to church on this sacred Sunday. I hope you’re not one of them. One day all of our faces will be pale blue and it will not be because of harmless dye; we will have departed the marvelous shell so wonderfully created and we will kneel before our Holy God. It will be a time of great celebration, or wailing and gnashing of the teeth and longing for another chance that will never come. Our actions in this lifetime decide. Trust in your Savior and He will save you!

Have a wonderful weekend and go to Honey Lake Church or somewhere this Easter Sunday.

Psalm 112:10

The wicked will see and be vexed, they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
