I was riding around Honey Lake Plantation Resort the other evening with a friend when he suddenly exclaimed, “Take a look over there and tell me how anyone could possibly say that there is no God”.
He was pointing to the setting sun quickly going down over pristine Honey Lake. The sky was pink, blue, and purple and the water was reflecting varying glistening shades of those colors off the surface of the lake making it look like an iridescent sea of rubies and sapphires on shimmering sparkling glass.
But that is not all, what made the scene complete was Honey Lake Church silhouetted in a backdrop of towering cypress and majestic centuries old oak trees. Its majestic cross illuminated by its spotlights was silhouetted nicely against the darkening sky and all but glowed its pure white brilliance as it sat atop its pointed steeple 56 feet in the sky. It was just dark enough for the lights from inside the church to fully illuminate the stained glass windows and the window with Jesus Christ standing tall immediately caught our eye.
It was a glorious, spectacular sight.
My friend and I just stopped our car in the middle of the road and marveled at it. I happened to notice a couple of men in a pickup truck on Honey Lake Road that had come to a complete stop and were doing the exact same thing that we were doing.
“Man oh man, I said, God is good. That is one lovely sight.”
The Bible tells us that when God created the heavens and earth including all creatures, (us included), that He simply said, “It is good” and then He rested.
Hmmm….That had to be quite the sight seeing this little blue marble of a planet hanging in the Universe among sparkling stars. His beloved earth was literally teeming with life, unspoiled by the pollution of sin and fallen creatures.
We get a little taste of that here at Honey Lake. At night we can see stars and the moon, and we can hear owls and whippoorwills, a chorus of frogs, and even on occasion a gator bellowing for a mate. We also get to go inside Honey Lake Church and literally feel God’s presence.
Sweet!
I imagine God is well pleased to see Honey Lake Church sitting amongst His lovely creation. It kind of reminds me of topping on a beautiful cake. God wanted fellowship with us, and in fact that is His stated reason for creating us. How unhappy it must make Him to see His creation spoiled by sin. I view it like seeing someone drive down Honey Lake Road and throw garbage out in the midst of this beautiful paradise. Such behavior cannot be allowed.
I believe that God views creation as being incomplete without His beloved children. He did not want to create us in a fashion that we were without true love, thus He gave us a free will to make choices. How can there be true love without choices?
Recently I wrote of someone who wisely said that there is no such thing as darkness, and in reality, darkness is just the absence of light. He also wrote that there is no such thing as evil, and in reality, evil is just the absence of God.
Imagine if God’s light was suddenly removed.
Yikes! Even Honey Lake would be a terrible place to be. I wouldn’t want to live here without light; as a matter of fact I don’t want to experience that situation anywhere. Separation from God is separation from God’s light. Go into a dark closet. If there is a crack on the floor, put a towel there and sit in the black and reflect on eternal darkness. Is that where you wish to spend eternity? The Bible clearly states that is where those who reject God will spend eternity.
You can choose light over darkness; good over evil. Doing so will open your eyes to paradise forever. Don’t let the garbage of sin pollute your life and deprive you of God’s goodness and gentle beauty in paradise forever. He loves you, but free will must be exercised. He will not force you into His corner; that is the nature of free will.
God separated light from darkness in the beginning and will do so again at judgment… Selah – Stop, rest, and meditate on this…
Genesis 1:4
And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness.
