Have you ever heard anyone say that they wished they had blue eyes instead of brown, or brown vs. blue, or were taller vs. shorter, shorter vs. taller, big frame vs. lighter frame, lighter vs. heavier, blond hair vs. black, black vs. blond, etc.?

Yikes! Where does it all end?

It doesn’t stop with appearance. Most people wistfully wish that they could be a little different in everything from appearance to God given talent. I always wished I could have been a very gifted musician. I can play guitar, but not like some folks. The same is true with my artistic ability. Some like my art, but it’s not off the charts as I wish it were.

I used to live by the ocean and was always fascinated by its constant motion and restless nature. It always seemed to make me tired enough to go take a nap after watching its constant churning and toiling. Aside from a miracle of God, nothing can really stop it from tossing to and fro, or order it to just “chill out” and relax for a while.

Such is not the case with the human nature. We have the option of accepting things just as they are and indeed being thankful for all that we’ve been given, and resting in God.

I was on a plane one time and the guy sitting next to me was wearing a tailored suit “fit to kill”. I remarked to him, “That sure is one fine looking suit you’re wearing there, what kind is it?

He was obviously pleased that I’d noticed his expensive tailored suit and proudly beamed that it was an Armani, He even peeled off his coat in order to flash the label for me to see.

I’m sure that the Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani would be well pleased to have seen this fellow’s pride in wearing one of the suits that he’d designed. This made me think about how good it might make God feel that we felt similarly concerning wearing His designer body. How appropriate it might have been for God to have put His label on us. Perhaps a nice tattoo looking affair on the base of our necks that stated: Made in heaven by God.

Hmmm… We be styling and profiling fo sho! We’re wearing apparel designed by the most renowned designer in the Universe!  Tailored Armani suit -$2500 – Body designed by God – Priceless!

If you ever start itching to be different than you are, remember that you are designed by God and are exactly the image that He wanted for you, (which by the way is entirely appropriate for you). If you are short, He likes you being short. If you are tall He wanted you to be tall. Feel good about yourself.

Personally I thank God we aren’t all alike. How boring would that be? As God was pondering His design scheme for mankind, He could have easily made us all exactly the same, but instead He chose to make each of us unique. Our DNA is concocted to God’s exact specifications, and best of all, everything He does is absolutely perfect according to His plan which encompasses all of eternity.

So relax and be happy with those things about yourself for which you have no control.

Disclaimer: That is not to say that we should gorge and not exercise and blow up like a corn fed boar hog or sow; nor should we stick our fingers down our throats after eating in order to look like a Miami model on methamphetamine. The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples designed by God and the Holy Spirit resides therein. Keep it in tip top shape for Him and be happy about your looks!

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!

Know that the Lord is God.
It is He who made us, and we are
