I received a call from a couple of my ranch hands yesterday that a big black bear was laying in the middle of the road just below my house. They said the bear appeared to be sick and could barely walk and kept falling down. I rode over and sure enough a large black bear was standing on the side of the road wheezing and popping his teeth together stumbling as he tried to walk. He was obviously very sick and was as skinny as a rail and I could see every rib in his body. He was suffering terribly and we called the Fish and Wildlife Service to see if we could go ahead and put him down and get him out of his misery.
“Absolutely not! Not unless you want to go to jail”, was the terse reply.
We asked, “Well what would you have us do? This animal is suffering greatly.”
“Let him die and we’ll come by later and see what was wrong with him.”
“Geez Louise this animal is suffering! You guys need to come over and put him out of his misery.”
This bureaucrat finally acquiesced and said he would send a biologist out to euthanize him, stating that he was “on the way”. I waited, and waited, and waited, and I’m still waiting for him to show up, or call, or something. In the meantime the bear continues to suffer, and suffer, and suffer. I assume it is either still suffering or hopefully has mercifully died by now. I intend to go check on him as soon as the sun comes up this morning.
I assume that since it was late afternoon when we called, the biologist opted to go on home instead of to Honey Lake to dispatch the bear.
Gr-r-rrrr!
Yesterday I met some nice folks from Wisconsin who have been subscribers to Words for the Day for some time. They happened to be driving down I-10 and since they were so close decided to stop by Honey Lake and see what I’ve been writing about all this time. She is an accomplished author of many books and has written me on numerous occasions concerning various subjects that have appeared in WFTD.
As we chatted they brought up the current hubbub going on within the Catholic Church where ObamaCare has mandated that Catholic owned hospitals and healthcare clinics provide abortion related assistance to those desiring to end pregnancies as well as to provide contraceptives including birth control pills. If the church fails to do as the government mandates then they will lose all federal funding. This of course is directly opposed to the fundamental belief system of the Catholic Church that all life is sacred and it is currently organizing in order to launch a fierce battle against the Obama administration on it.
She mentioned a fictional book that she’d authored over a decade ago that seems to be eerily headed towards self-fulfillment, (at least if Obama has his way). One aspect of the book detailed how our government had formed death panels of bureaucrats who would essentially decide who lived and who died by either granting doctor care or denying it based upon age and type of illness. Old folks were routinely euthanized in her book to save healthcare dollars.
Yikes! Now that’s too close to home…
Later that evening I watched an interview with Rick Santorum and he was discussing his beautiful young daughter Bella who has a terminal illness and has already outlived doctor’s predictions of how long she might live with this illness. She was hospitalized this week with pneumonia and one aspect of her disease is that her little body lacks normal capacity to fight off infections and other common threats to her health. Her illness was serious enough to necessitate that he stop campaigning in order to be with her. Fortunately she made a good comeback and is on the mend and now he’s back on the campaign trail.
He spoke of his love for this little girl and the absolute joy she’s brought to their lives. They have seven children and yet this “flawed” little girl remains the center of their family. The commentator mentioned how difficult it had to be for her to still be in intensive care while he was far away campaigning for the presidency. He responded that indeed it was an agonizing sacrifice; however one primary reason that he’s doing it is in order to fight for Bella and others like her to ensure that they receive the healthcare that they need. He said her coverage could be denied by the federal government as being too expensive since she was terminal anyway, and she faced a very real danger of having her care completely cut off under programs like ObamaCare. The Senator vowed to fight it with all his strength until it is defeated.
It seems almost inconceivable that our great country is moving in this direction. Many in the Democratic Party call themselves “Progressives”. If this is what they perceive as “progress” they need their heads examined. Hitler’s solution was to engineer a master race of pure Germans. Although he is best known for trying to destroy all Jews, he also put gypsies and others whom he considered to be “flawed” to death, including the “Bellas” of the world who had infirmities or were otherwise handicapped.
As I sit here thinking about this situation I’m fuming. A certain black bear is right down at the bottom of the hill from my house dying a ridiculously slow and horrible death, because of some lazy, incompetent government bureaucrat who is snoring away and could care less about that bear. And our nation is considering creating another bureaucracy of them to put in charge of our own healthcare??? I would imagine their first move will be to unionize and woe be unto anyone who needs care after 4 p.m. or if they decide to go on strike in order to receive off the charts compensation and perpetual benefits.
Vote your conscience this November, or please, don’t vote at all!
Matt. 24:12
Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
