I’m speaking in the morning at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast to business leaders from several counties. I’m told that many are discouraged and hopeful that I can offer some encouraging news in a country reeling daily from bad news piled on top of more bad news. I was asked to offer some innovative ideas that these small business owners from around South Georgia could implement to put them on the radar locally and even nationally.

Hmmm… I told a gentleman who was applying for a job recently that a pet peeve of mine is to hear someone say: “The best way to do so and so is…” Or: “The only way to do such and such is…”

Blah!

There is always a better way and there is no such thing as the “only” way to do something. There are plenty of ways and no one has ever thought of the “best” way to do much of anything. We just need to look for a better way.

I find that many problems in life are more attitudal than situational. If someone thinks they are going to lose they will lose. We see it all the time with world records that we are told will never be broken. Then along comes some positive thinking person who smashes it and shortly thereafter person after person breaks it too…Roger Bannister did it with the four minute mile.

I have had successful company after company and still today there are those who doubt that I will succeed with this or that venture.

Yawn…

I was told by my parents, brother, friends, teachers, military, and police that I would never amount to anything, but Jesus said I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. He said that nothing is impossible with God. I choose to listen to Him and put my faith in His word rather than the naysayers.

It sounds to me like what this country needs is faith in God too. Perhaps President Obama should recognize National Prayer Day and go to church instead of playing golf every Sunday; Mayor Bloomberg should allow clergy to attend the 9/11 memorial service; Prayer should be allowed at football games and in classrooms; the Ten Commandments should be placed wherever people can see them and derive wisdom from them; abortion clinics should be shut down; embryonic stem cell research should be stopped in its tracks; and a call to prayer by a Texas Governor should be welcomed instead of ridiculed.

Perhaps if people would call upon the name of the Lord He would heal our land. I often relate what is happening in our country to old Jeremiah as he tried to warn the Jews to come to their senses before it was too late and was met with deaf ears. Believers are fast becoming the minority in this country and it’s no longer politically correct to say anything like I’m saying. Most look at it as being rude, distasteful, confrontational, and …well politically incorrect.

Well pooh pooh pee doo I tell you what they can do with their politically correct…They can see if it will cure this:

  • According to statistics 82% of people in the U.S. have lost hope
    • 46 million are living below poverty level
    • Divorce rate 51% – (41% for first – 60% for second)
    • 83% of citizens disapprove of congress
    • 1 in 3 kids are not graduating from high school – an all time high – 42% Georgia
    • 1 in 200 people used an emergency homeless shelter in 2010
    • Home sales and prices at the lowest point in decades
    • Economy is riddled with $14 trillion in debt and climbing
    • 18 million total unemployed counting those who have stopped looking
    • Illegal drug use is up over 500% from ten years ago
    • There is at least one severe alcoholic in 43% of the families in the U.S. and in many cases multiple alcoholics
    • Every 18 minutes another life is lost to suicide – 11th leading cause of death of Americans
    • Violent crime is rampant – 800,000 gang members, 16,000 drug related murders in Mexico last year
    • Middle East is exploding with wars
    • Millions of children starving to death in Somalia
    • Iraq war 4482 deaths – Afghanistan 1584 Total 6026
    • Terrorism threats occur every day
    • Natural disasters on the increase earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, tornados, floods

Politically correct won’t cure this, only God can do that. Too bad that so many don’t realize it or seem to care….

2 Chron. 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
