Popular Atlanta talk radio host Neal Boortz recently said that our nation was rapidly becoming a nation of “moochers and morons”. Let’s consider moochers first. How many people are paying taxes? About half of the people in the United States pay no income tax. The result is a tax system that exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone, including national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners — households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 — paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government. (Remember that the next time Obama tries to stir up class warfare against these taxpayers.)
The bottom 40 percent, on average, make a profit from the federal income tax, meaning they get more money in tax credits than they would otherwise owe in taxes. For those people, the government sends them a payment.
Huh?
46 million are receiving food stamps; then there’s Medicaid, Medicare, and thousands of other welfare and aid programs of every description designed to meet the needs of practically anyone who can vote. And let’s not forget all of those millions of union pensions of government workers and politicians that unlike private industry worker plans, setup our illustrious government workers for “life” with lucrative monthly checks and health care benefits that are similar to the Eveready bunny rabbit and just keep going and going forever.
Against my better judgment I hired a retired government bureaucrat one time and as expected he only lasted a month. He couldn’t work normal hours like someone in private industry, nor could he handle the slightest pressure. In the midst of his first little skirmish of what I deemed to be a few pathetically simple and mild problems, he fell apart. He angrily quit and told me that I put too much pressure on him; then he arrogantly said, “I don’t have to work; I don’t want to work; and I’m not gonna work!” Spoken like a true government bureaucrat namby pamby; Puh—leeeze… Get this guy a box of tissues.
I didn’t respond but wondered how anyone could have a mentality like that. What is he gonna do, sit on his front porch and stare? Sadly the answer to that is probably yes, he will sit right there on his fat butt while all of us moron taxpayers pay for it.
I once had a secretary who was a quick learner, and very skilled in her duties, but during a conversation I discovered that incredulously she didn’t even know what political party the President was in, (Democrat or Republican). Upon further questioning she did not know who the Vice President was either; she didn’t know how many states are in the United States or what city is its capital. She could however tell me which song was number one, (and two and three…) on the country music charts. I asked her what TV show she watched when she got home at night; she responded, “Andy Griffith”.
ARGHHHH!!!!
I don’t know if moron is an accurate description for this person. Certainly she had an above average IQ as demonstrated in her being effective in her role as my assistant which was quite a complex undertaking. I think she was merely apathetic of what is going on in our nation and therein is the problem. Too many otherwise intelligent people simply ignore the political process and elect whoever will promise to give them the most stuff. Now it has reached a point where our country’s financial system is on the verge of collapse. Perhaps like an alcoholic or druggie, it will have to hit rock bottom and all of those checks stop before people will wake up and elect sensible people.
It seems the entire world wants someone else to pay the tab for them. People are rioting in the streets from Greece to Italy, Wisconsin, New Jersey and California and demanding their “rights” for someone else to pay for their existence.
The Bible is clear on this subject, it states if someone will not work that they should not eat. When taken in context this does not include those with disabilities and infirmities that would prevent an otherwise perfectly capable person from working.
Guess what? The Bible doesn’t tell us that the government should pick up the tab for these folks though; it tells us that the church should do it. (You and me.)
Okay according to statistics more than half of you are probably mad at me right now, because more than half are on the government dole in some shape, form, or fashion. Please don’t write because I will not be sympathetic to your arguments. The other day someone angrily wrote to me and said something to the effect: “That’s easy for you to say with your wealth, but some of us are struggling just to exist”. I wrote back and reminded that guy that I used to sleep on the side of the road and eat in missions. I am not a member of the lucky sperm club and did not inherit anything or hit the lottery. I worked for everything I have and started off cleaning bricks with a hatchet for $15 a day on the daily work force.
I took the lowest entry level position and was the first there and last to leave and worked my way up through decades of difficult stressful work. I did not think I was ENTITILED to anything but to do as the Bible ordains and work by the “sweat of my brow” amongst the “thorns and thistles”. I have struggled to pay my light bills, not owned a car, been behind three months on my mortgage payment and all the rest. I didn’t whine about it or demonstrate in the streets. I maintained a positive attitude and worked my way through it. I also educated myself to perform my duties including self teaching myself computer technology and other things.
I might mention that in Silicon Valley California there are 60,000 very high paying jobs available this very moment that cannot be filled with American workers because they do not have the skills. America is abysmally behind all modern countries in math and reading skills and 1/3 of our students don’t even graduate from high school. Where are there parents? Watching Andy Griffith? You bet and their kids are right there with them begging for use of the TV to play video games.
We live in a fallen world and must accept that life will not be all vanilla. We are entitled to work and honor our Lord and that’s about it. The quicker we adopt that mentality, the quicker we will progress.
I have a headache and will stop my rant. Have a great weekend.
Gen.3:17, 19
By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.
