A friend called me yesterday and told me that he was asked to say a prayer in front of a hundred people and he wanted my opinion as to whether or not he should thank God for Osama Bin Laden being killed by our brave soldiers. He was afraid some of the Christians at this event might not like him thanking God that someone was killed.
One thing I have learned in writing Words for the Day for eleven years is that no matter what this fellow might say in his prayer, it is a safe bet that someone is not going to like it. He might as well tell it like he sees it, and thank God almighty that this satanic murderer is currently swimming with the fishes with a bullet hole in his head and chest. Afterwards let the banshees howl and shake their heads in disgust.
I try to call things the way I see them using God’s Holy Scripture as my unerring guide, and if it offends some naysayers, then let them bellyache and moan. The only time I can get into trouble using this methodology is if I happen to interpret the Bible incorrectly, because the Bible says of itself that it is unerring, and is indeed the holy inspired word of God.
I try my best to study Scripture and take it in context and use it to guide me through the snares of this world. Although I might not always be right on every point, I feel most of the time I get it right, because I make a concerted, earnest effort to study the Bible to understand what God would have me to do concerning a subject prior to committing it to my belief system. I have no doubt that God applauds my honest effort to test most every questionable decision or topic against His holy word, before espousing my interpretation of what He is communicating.
That’s one thing I love about the Bible and God; it doesn’t change with the politically correct winds. We are told in the Bible that heaven and earth might fall, but God’s laws will never change. He is the same today as he was yesterday, a thousand years ago, or will be in a thousand trillion years from now and the same can be said about His laws. In this chaotic world with its shifting politically correct sand foundation it is refreshing to find something solid like a rock to put our faith in, perfect in every way and withstanding the test of time.
The Bible broaches controversial topics like, “Call no man Father but God aboveâ€; (what will the pope and priests think?) Homosexuality is an abomination; (what will the ACLU think?) Women should not teach men; (What will all those women ministers and their congregations think?) Life begins in the womb; (What will Planned Parenthood think?
Who cares what they think? I care what GOD thinks and that is laid out in the Bible for everyone to plainly see! Let society pooh pooh it if they will. They also pooh poohed Jesus Christ and put Him to death for what He had to say.
Personally I could care less if people disagree with what I have to say; I dare say that I rarely find an individual that I agree with all of the time either. I don’t care for the personal attacks on my character sometimes, but most of the time it just flows off my back like rain on a tin roof. We are fallible human beings and subject to make mistakes and I realize that, but the Bible is infallible.
So-o-o-o-o… If the Bible is being utilized as I have described, in my mind it becomes the litmus test and only its interpretation can be wrong. Much of it is spelled out in black and white and real life examples are also provided to us. The Sodom and Gomorrah event is a typical example of what I’m describing…
Some folks tend to pick and choose only the parts that they agree with in the Bible. The rest they say was just written down by a bunch of old men or that it doesn’t really mean what it says, or does not apply today. I don’t believe that. If God is all powerful (and He is), and the Bible is His only form of written communication, (and it is), why would an omnipotent God allow His holy communiqué to this world be written incorrectly? He wouldn’t…
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
