OH

MY

GOSH!

IT”S TERRIBLE!

Tragedy has struck! Mean old Governor Walker in Wisconsin actually wants those precious little government union workers to pay into their own pension plans and contribute to their own health care plans.

The nerve! The audacity! Doesn’t he know that they belong to the union and are special? The union told him to lay off 12,000 workers instead; why doesn’t he just comply?

It’s sickening to watch this play out on national television every day, but it is indicative of our “me” culture. We got into our financial mess in this country because the politicians are a part of the “me” culture; they listened to the unions who could get them re-elected with their infamous war chests of money for their campaigns, their guaranteed block vote, and their ability to organize workers for their campaigns. (Also they wanted no part of what Governor Walker is receiving now; paid goons and thugs being bused in to demonstrate against him.)

In reality unions weren’t the only special interest they listened to. They listened long and often to all kinds of special interests including trial lawyers, bankers, Wall Street, and yes, even ordinary people like seniors and their “me” culture. Everyone wants their piece of the American taxpayer pie and seemingly could care less about what it does to our once great country.

Now that the country is on the verge of financial collapse no one wants to give any of “their” treasure up. The mantra of the day is cut other areas, but leave my piece of the pie intact.

The “me” culture affects every corner of our society too. I went quail hunting with a guy the other day who has an incredible net worth and who sold just one of his businesses for $650 million dollars. He asked me if I was collecting Social Security yet. He is collecting it and so was the other gentleman that was hunting with us who was quite wealthy in his own right.

I told him no. And when he asked me why, I told him that for one thing I wasn’t old enough to draw the full amount yet and for the second I wasn’t comfortable drawing it because the Social Security system is going bankrupt and I don’t really need the money.

He told me that money belonged to “me”; that I had contributed to it for decades and I should get it now because Social Security might not be around that much longer. Further the government is comprised of a bunch of incompetent fools and bozos and they would just squander it and give my hard earned money to someone too lazy to work as part of Obama’s redistribution of wealth ambitions.

Hmmm Bozo is an apt description of them; however if everyone maintains this position and it tanks, what will happen to the people in this country who truly must rely on Social Security in order to survive?

No one wants to give up government benefits that affect them and yet if we don’t cut spending, our country will collapse. No entity can spend more than they take in indefinitely; not your personal household, a business, a church, or a government. Too many take the approach the union is taking in Wisconsin; lay off 12,000 workers if you must, but don’t mess with “my” pension, or “my” pay, or “my” healthcare and benefits.

Me-me-me; It sounds like someone warming up for an opera. Soon we will see demonstrations all over the country as special interests battle to retain their special interests. Rich, middle class, and poor don’t give a whit about what it does to others in the country; it is themselves that they care about.

Jeez I dread seeing my little grandkids face trillions of dollars of debt. True, in my case the fat lady will have sung and I’ll be “toe up” before the brunt of it takes our country by storm. I’ll be fine and walking the streets of gold in paradise, but I do care about those youngsters left behind.

Jesus told us that we should not be a part of the “me” culture. In fact it is the second greatest commandment not to be self centered.

Gosh do you think maybe that is where our nation and the entire world is going wrong?

I think so

Sigh

Matt. 22:36
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
