I woke up the other morning wondering what my brother Jim was going to do today. He died a few years back and is residing in heaven. I was telling my dad about it and he stated that he wished God had divulged more about heaven and we began speculating as to what it is like.

I mentioned that there would be no time in heaven and thus no clocks or watches. No being late or early for meetings. For that matter there should be no days, weeks, months, or years. Time should be irrelevant in an eternal existence. No money will be necessary in heaven, thus no greed or poverty. We should be plenty busy though, because God will teach us many things and no doubt assign us plenty of projects; remember when he had Adam name the creatures?

There shouldn’t be any darkness or nighttime, because the Bible states that all of heaven will be illuminated by God’s presence, (remember the face of Moses when he came down from the mount). Hmmm that means no sleep and that means no B-52-like snoring emitting from my wife for eternity. That’s good That’s very good! There will be no marriages in heaven the Bible states we will be like angels. That is a good thing because my wife might repeatedly bash me about my head and face for eternity for making that snoring comment. Isaiah states there will be no remembrance of former things in heaven, nor will they come to mind. That’s a good thing That’s very good thing!

The subject came up as to how we would look and Dad and I reached a disagreement. He said our glorified bodies would look exactly like we looked at the peak of our lives on this earth. Although I do think we will be greeted by and recognize loved ones who have arrived ahead of us in heaven, I cannot buy that one. What if you were born with a deformity?

The Bible tells us in 1 Cor. 2:9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” The bottom line is that we only know a few things about heaven, but what we do know sounds good to me.

The entrance to heaven is described as being awesome and beautiful beginning with the gate that is heavily bejeweled and then we will go down a boulevard going right through the middle of heaven that will be incredible. We will immediately see a flowing crystal clear river of life, and located on each side of the river will be a Garden of Eden transplanted there. It will be graced by six huge Trees of Life for a total of twelve trees with twelve kinds of fruit on each tree, (this indicates to me that we will eat in heaven. Why else have fruit?). Then flanked on either side of this sight are the incredible streets of transparent gold.

Best of all there will be no tears in heaven. Eric Clapton wrote that song and I love it but I like the one Elvis sang about heaven best:

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
There’ll be no sadness, no sorrow, my Lord,
no trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me

Well the bear will be gentle
And the wolf will be tame
And the lion shall lay down, down by the lamb, oh yes
And the beasts from the wild
Shall be led by a child
And I’ll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes

There will be peace in the valley for me, some day
There will be peace in the valley for me, oh Lord I pray
There’ll be no sadness, no sorrow, oh my Lordy, no trouble, trouble I see
There will be peace in the valley for me, [for me]

Yep, I wonder what Jim is doing today.

Isaiah 65:17
Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
