I want more than a camera

Okay, so a few of you have written and commented about my “home spun” writing style and how I relate everyday occurrences back to the Bible and by so doing somehow demean God by not being serious enough.

Huh?

Should I be more formal? Not that long ago the Catholics read Latin in church services. Perhaps I could follow their lead, or maybe even throw in some Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic languages and formalize the heck out of it.

What could anyone ever hope to glean from that? I wonder what all those congregations were thinking about as that priest rattled off his prayers in Latin. I imagine more than one was thinking about getting out of there and getting home to that pot roast that was simmering in the oven.

Hmmm Jesus didn’t think much about long repetitious prayers.

Matt6:1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven… Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.”

I try to emulate Jesus in every way possible. I’m not always successful, but at least I’m trying. The Bible is filled with His parables and I don’t think He used them by accident. Jesus has a heart for regular people, (not just for the chosen few religious leaders), and He wants to help us.

It’s just my humble opinion but everyday ordinary people can better understand the Bible when we relate it to our own lives. His parables were rich in imagery and are not easily forgotten and that’s the point.

Some call my postings analogies, but I like to think of WFTD as a series of modern day parables where I try to relate everyday occurrences in my life and those around me back to the Bible in order to better understand things from a spiritual perspective; kind of an earthly message with a heavenly meaning if you will.

More important than my “home spun” writing style is the point that I believe we should always be searching for understanding of God’s wisdom. I believe the Bible’s purpose is two-fold; it leads us to eternal salvation and guides us through the snares, toils, happy and tearful times of whatever remains of this life.

Whenever most anything good or bad happens to me I ask myself what God is trying to teach me by it and through the years I have developed an uncanny knack for relating virtually everything that happens in my life back to the Bible.

Want to test me?

Yesterday evening I was deer hunting and just before dark a rather large black bear walked out and came directly over to the base of my tripod deer stand and reared up and put its paws on it and looked at me. I took a photo of the beast with my cell phone. He looked at me and I looked at him and after a few moments of careful consideration he casually lumbered on off into the woods. He wasn’t the least bit afraid of me. Moments later I had to climb down out of that stand and walk back to my truck in the darkness of the night without a light. (I wonder if one can see a pitch-black black bear in the pitch black darkness of the night.)

Hmmm

Was I worried about that bear? No, I was armed with a high powered rifle and I had faith that if that bear messed with me he would regret it. I view walking through the darkness of this old world in similar manner. I’m not only armed with the high power of God’s word, but His Holy Spirit lives within me and that is plenty sufficient for me. I have faith that my weapons can and will defeat satan.

Now had I been walking back to that truck armed only with my Canon camera, I just might have needed to clean my britches when I got home.

How’s that for some rich imagery that will not be easily forgotten? Formal enough for you? LOL

Moral of the story: Don’t walk through the darness of this world all alone when you don’t have to.

Luke 15:8.

Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents”
