My new home is merely days away from completion and another of my mega time-consuming projects is quickly nearing completion. HUR-RAH!
I have decided to name my new home “Selah”. Selah is a biblical term that is generally accepted as meaning, “stop and rest”. Although some think it’s merely a musical interlude in Psalms that is similar to a music stop, my study leads me to believe that it’s more of an exclamation instructing us to “stop, measure, and reflect” upon what has just been said in a particular section of the Bible and wisely consider it. It appears to me that it as though the Lord has added His own exclamation point at the end of certain passages as an indication that He wants us to stop for a moment and thoughtfully reflect upon, and weigh what we have just read.
Psalms 9:20 “Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.”
Hmmm How long could a thinking person stop and thoughtfully reflect on that statement?
While you might think it odd that I want to name my house, I look at it as the right thing to do.
Okay, but you live on a plantation; why not name it “Tara”?
Hmmm Didn’t Tara end up being gone with the wind?
Actually I gave this matter some deep, serious, thought. The Lord has graciously provided this house for me to live in for a while and I wanted to somehow dedicate it to Him. I can think of no better way than to dedicate it to His holy word. After all, Bible study is what originally led me to salvation and I believe is truly mankind’s gateway to God and is the key that unlocks the door to understanding His purpose for His children of which I am one Selah
I sincerely hope that if you ever come visit my home that you will be able to stop and REST and that you will take time to thoughtfully reflect on our gracious Lord and all of the many blessings that He showers on us daily. Even if you never visit me I pray that each of you will do as I have done and make the Bible the centerpiece of your life and pray along with me that He will give us wisdom and understanding that will serve as a lighthouse to guide us safely into harbor and into the truth of His Holy Word.
Selah.
Psalm 67:1
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us, Selah
