Someone unsubscribed yesterday because I pulled a dastardly trick on my friend and recounted it in WFTD yesterday and she did not like it one little bit. Hmmm This lady needs to lighten up a little don’t you think?
This reminds me of the time I was publishing a how-to video magazine for artists. At the end of each show I would be standing at the edge of my pond with my black Labrador retriever, “Bear”, and after offering one final sage bit of inspiring advice to all of those wannabe artists out there, I would bid the viewers adieu as the cameraman filmed me throwing a bird dummy into the lake. I would nod to Bear and he would run top speed and with a six foot leap splash into the water and begin retrieving it while background music played as that issue closed.
I got a raging scalding letter from a reader telling me that Bear had no business being in a how-to video for wildlife artists. It was nothing but a waste of time and that was time that could be devoted to showing artists how to become better artists.
HmmmThe very next issue I wrote a song for this guy whose name was Henry. Our little band performed this song on camera in his honor. I played my guitar and wore a white cowboy hat, white furry chaps and western shirt. I thought it was grand
The lyrics in part went as follows:
“Why don’t you lighten up Hen-n-n-nreee
You’ve been working WAY too hard
Take your dog for a swim
Plug your radio in
And go out and have a BEER in your backyard”
Henry unsubscribed a few days after the issue was mailed out. Drat the luck! I wanted him to be a better artist, because all great artists have a little sense of humor.
I mean really. What do you suppose is wrong with having a good laugh now and then? I play tricks on my friends all of the time. Do you suppose God wants us to go around with serious looks on our face scowling every day? Hmmm. I think not. The Henrys of the world need to quit taking themselves so seriously. I pray for this lady that she will receive what Job received. Calm down I am not trying to put a curse on her. I don’t mean the calamities of Job, read below
Job 8:21
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter.
Phooey on you!
