Did God take a break?

Prior to boarding the plane I noticed a beautiful girl that stood about six foot three. She was ravishing beautiful. As luck would have it she was sitting right next to me in first class when I got on the plane. She was a professional volleyball player and high fashion model. Gorgeous is too shallow a word to describe her. She wore a tank top that exposed most of her tanned stomach and shorts revealed her long tanned legs. She was toned and “cut”.

In talking with her I discovered that she worked out SEVEN hours per day. Can you imagine that? Aside from her figure she was just beautiful. Her green eyes to this day are the prettiest that I have ever seen and her smile was radiant. I know my heart was in very good shape, otherwise it would have exploded.

I noticed one flaw and that was her feet, they were huge. Hmmm I wondered, “Did God take a break when designing her and allow a subordinate to design her feet?”

This brings to mind a friend who is obsessed with finding the perfect woman. Any flaw disqualifies a candidate and I assume the model would be no different. He has rejected an entire litany of women for one reason or another in his search for perfection. He is miserable and lonely as a result.

He should look in the mirror, because he is not all of that great himself and his hair is slowly beginning to thin out and he appears to be heading towards baldness. The Bible is clear that the important things in life are not found in the world or in superficial things like looks. If someone lives long enough the looks and figure will fade. Plastic surgeons can win a small battle here and there and stave it off for a time, but it is inevitable that age will win the war.

The same is true for other things such as houses, boats, cars, planes, furs, and clothes. I went to a very famous plantation in Thomasville Georgia a couple of weekends ago and had this reinforced. The people that owned it were beyond rich and no expense was spared in constructing it, but today it is not grand anymore and one must envision what it must have been like in its heyday to truly appreciate it.

My friend should learn to appreciate what is inside a woman’s heart and character and worry less about the physical appearance that will surely fade as time takes its toll. He must understand that perfection will not be found and that she will have faults just like he has faults. Accept them and move on. None of us should put our trust in this world. The beautiful things of today will be dilapidated, run down, and eventually disappear. Put your trust in God who never changes. His word tells us what is important in life and good looks and/or petite feet are not on the list….

2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will
come as a thief in the night, in which
the heavens will pass away with a
great noise, and the elements will
melt with fervent heat; both the earth
and the works that are in it will be
burned up.
Therefore since all these things
will be dissolved, what manner of
persons ought you to be in holy conduct
and Godliness,
looking for and hastening the
coming of the day of God, because
of which the heavens will be dissolved,
being on fire, and the elements
will melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to
His promise, look for new heavens
and a new earth in which righteousness
dwells.
