Not everything the Lord commands us to do is easy. Some examples might be, if someone wrongs us our natural tendency is not to forgive them, love them, or turn the other cheek, but to do harm to them,. Hating the sin and loving the sinner is another difficult thing to swallow.
One thing that gets me are the commands in the Bible that deal with respecting our country’s leadership. Obama, Pelosi, and Harry Reid make me want to gag and anti-acid pills do not help. I disagree with what they are doing to our country in so many areas I could write volumes and my own Wikipedia on it, but aside from their heinous Godless agenda such as abortion and stem cell research and instilling class warfare philosophy far and wide, spending us into bankruptcy and turning us into a socialist country is incendiary to me.
I would think that most sane people would understand that one entity, (the United States), cannot borrow trillions to bail out other entities that are in deep financial trouble because they borrowed too much money.
Huh? What makes them think the United States will not end up in exactly the same situation, (bankruptcy), when they recklessly borrow money to feed their obsessive spending habit? I mean look at California…
Obviously people disagree on politics and normally I shy away from them within this pulpit, but I could go on for hours. Mercifully I will cool it this morning because the subject of today’s message is not to vent about the ongoing insanity, corruption, etc. that are besieging our country, but instead to try and understand that God has ordered us to “respect” these leaders regardless. I do not want to disobey God and will attempt this best I know how, but my prayer this morning is, “Lord you know my heart, and this AIN’T EASY! Please give me some strength here”.
At the time the New Testament was written the Romans ruled. They were Godless, corrupt, and committed atrocities to the masses. It was at this time that the Apostles Paul and Peter recorded God’s inspired message on this subject. I wonder how hard it was for them to write it, especially Peter.
I pulled some verses dealing with their writings on the subject off the Internet this morning for your perusal. Read em and weep fellow conservatives
“Regardless of the outcome of the crisis of the presidency, Christians are obliged to obey God by respecting government authoritythe law and national and local leaders. Two of the apostles made this point in their letters.
“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities,” wrote the apostle Paul. “For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1). This includes the payment of taxes and other obligations (verses 2-7). Remember that the Roman government of the time had its own problems with corruption and abuse of power. But such behavior does not give people an excuse to disobey the law or disrespect the authority of their leaders.
Peter gave his readers the same instruction: “Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors …” (1 Peter 2:13-14). We are also to “honor the king” or chief ruler (verse 17). Paul echoes Peter’s instruction to Titus: “Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no one …” (Titus 3:1-2). Elsewhere Paul exhorts us pray “for kings and all who are in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
All this does not mean that we are to disobey God in situations where the law of man may conflict with the law of God (Acts 4:18-20; 5:40), but even then Christians are to continue to respect government authorityeven when those in positions of authority have abused their offices. GN
