Broken heart

I know some people who today can be best described as having a broken heart. Sadness overwhelms them and depression is upon them every waking moment. It seems as though there is nothing but despair in all directions. Actually this time is a special time in our relationship with God. The Bible speaks specifically to those who have a broken heart and offers comfort. If you know someone who is suffering from a broken heart, perhaps you can gently let them know that during these dark times, there is a silver lining in their life; God is very near.

Unquestionably the saddest time of my entire life was when my brother took his own life. If anyone’s heart has ever been broken, it could not have been broken any worse than mine was broken when this occurred. How lucky I was to have the Lord near me during those dark and difficult days when I was overwhelmed with sadness and grief. How lucky I am even now to have His gentle loving Spirit surround me when I am sad. Just imagine that almighty God, awesome creator of everything seen and unseen, Ruler of all, takes time to draw near to us, to love and comfort us when we are broken hearted. Thank God for His promise to “draw near” when we are broken hearted.
