I saw an interview on the Internet the other day that was pretty funny. There was a politician all dressed up in his suit complete with American flag on the lapel of his expensive Italian custom made suit. He was in his stately office in Washington D. C. and was being interviewed concerning his support and introduction of a bill that dealt with municipalities having the right to display the Ten Commandments publically. He looked rather pious and serious as he answered questions regarding his support for this bill right up until the point that the reporter asked him if he knew what the Ten Commandments were.

He turned a little red and stammered around a little and said that of course he knew what they were. The reporter asked him to recite some of them. The Senator said, “Right now?” The reporter said, “Right now.” If memory serves me correctly he got one of them. Huh? This is the Senator that is fighting so hard to introduce a bill that will allow the display of the Ten Commandments in public government buildings, and he does not even know what they are? Why is he fighting so hard for this bill? Perhaps he wanted them displayed in order that he might learn them? I hate to be cynical but methinks he might be more interested in the Christian vote than he is in displaying the basic tenants of God’s laws? In either case he was pretty embarrassed to be sure.

At the risk of offending some, I have displayed the Ten Commandments at our work place for years as I believe that our society needs them, (especially those who dislike this policy and might be offended by them). I encourage everyone to read them as I do at every opportunity. I think the fuss about their display would go away if more people really knew what they actually say.

1. I am the Lord your God and you shall have no other Gods before Me.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and mother that your days may be long in the land
6. You shall not kill
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal
9. You shall not bear false witness
10. You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor’s

The anti-Christ movement does not want them displayed and the Christian movement does, but how many from “either” side even know what they are arguing about? Whether you support them or oppose them, take some time to learn them, so you can argue one way of the other intelligently.

The Ten Commandments are important as are all of God’s laws. I would ask those opposed to it if they actually believe that it is wrong to post something that states that we should not lie, steal, kill, commit adultery, covet, and curse God and that we should honor our fathers and mothers. There are only three that deal specifically with God in not having graven images, remembering the Sabbath and instructing us to worship God and only God.

Therein is the problem, as some folks among us do not believe in God. According to polls this pertains only to a very small minority, but whatever we do we must not as a majority dare offend any of them as they have their “rights”. Yeah right If you do not believe in God, well there is something in the Bible for you too

Psalm 14:1
The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no god”
They are corrupt
They have done abominable
works.
