Through the years I have been like a lightening rod attracting nutty people. I do not understand it, but it is like I am a psycho magnet or something. I have been threatened more than a few times, and even carried my trusty 9MM in a shoulder holster for a couple of years for protection because of one persistent nut who would not let his hatred for me go. No one ever carried through on their threats and I offered to meet more than one and settle our disputes, but none ever was serious enough to pursue the duel offer.
I have found through the years that most of these idiots are actually cowards and are more about running their big mouths than actually taking action; however I suppose there is always the exception. I saw a blurb on the news the other day about some nut that had been fired who took a shotgun up to work and killed several employees. Most businesses are buying expensive security and using sophisticated locks and even security guards to keep such occurrences from happening on their premises. I do think some common sense measures should be taken; however I really do not worry about it. I compare it to worrying about getting bit by a poisonous snake. Some folks have a morbid fear of that happening to them and are petrified when they see even a little Garter snake, but in reality very few people ever meet their fate via a poisonous snake bite. The odds are incredible against our meeting our fate in that manner.
Don’t live your life in fear. The Bible plainly tells us that over and over again. We should live our lives as peacefully as possible always optimistically looking toward the day our Lord will redeem us, trusting Him completely. Yes there will be some bumps in the road, but nothing we cannot handle with help from above. Basically we should have faith that God is with us and will take care of us through this life and the next as He has promised in His holy word. God cannot lie, so anyone who has studied the Bible and has faith as they should can rest easy. God would not have promised to take care of us if He did not mean it.
So do not worry about some nut who may be threatening you, or being swept away by a tornado, going down on a plane, the big “C”, heart problems, getting hit by lightening, or global warming, or whatever. Yes we should use common sense and not take unnecessary risks and tempt the Lord as if we are invincible, but by all means we should not live our lives in fear. If you truly believe in Jesus as you should, worry will not be in your vocabulary and you will trust in the Lord completely to deliver you as promised repeatedly in His holy word.
Matt. 6:25
Therefore I say to you, do not
worry
Do not fear snakes, plane rides, and nutty people
