I’m happy to report that I have survived my recent illness. Before it was over I lost a total of sixteen pounds in four days and spent four hours in the emergency room but I have already gained back three pounds and, albeit I am very weak, I am feeling much better today.
Life reminds me of the cycles of the moon. We go from times of complete darkness (similar to the “new” moon phase) to “bright and shining” (similar to the “full” moon phase). Then there are the crescent and gibbous phases. When the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth, the moon appears “full” to us, a bright, round shining disk. When the moon is between the earth and the sun, it appears dark, a “new” moon. In-between full and new, the moon’s illuminated surface appears to slowly grow (wax) moving towards crescent to gibbous to full, then decreases (wanes) similarly to the next new moon.
There are times in my life when it seems to be waning, (getting darker by the day) and then there are times it is definitely waxing, (getting brighter by the day). I am happy to report that there are times when it is bright and shining but then there have been times when it was completely dark. It all depends upon my relationship with God. When I am closest to God I bask in God’s glorious light. When I drift or backslide I slide into darkness.
The brightness of all of life is dependent upon our relationship with God. Just as the world can get in-between the brightness of the moon, the “world” can get in-between the brightness of God in our lives. Even during the dark times, God is always still there mind you, but He who is holy and perfect and abhors sin gave us free will and that mandates that we must call on the name of the Lord and repent of sin in order to have the relationship we want and need so badly. Sometimes the sinful world and all its lusts and temporal allure just gets in the way and we seem to get diverted.
Is anything in-between you and God today that might be blotting out the “full” brightness that can be yours? In your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, are you in a Full moon phase? Waning? Waxing? New?Jesus said if we draw near to Him, He will do likewise towards us and call us into His marvelous light. Nice!
2 Peter 2:9
Proclaim the praises of Him who
called you out of darkness and into His
marvelous light.
