Twisted thinking

My father told me about a man in his church that had a strong desire to be respected as a “good” Christian guy who was raising his kids to be well-mannered and respectful during church services, and he wanted everyone to know that he made his kids behave. During the church service as the preacher was delivering his message, someone observed this guy first look around in every direction and when he thought no one was looking he reached over and pinched the fire out of one of his kids. The poor little kid let out a yelp and when he did the man reached over and promptly popped him upside his head with a pencil in order to ‘admonish’ him for disrupting the service.

His mission was to make everyone think that he was the type guy that would not let his kids disrupt a church service. This twisted logic reminded me of a guy I heard about that embezzled tens of thousands of dollars from the business for which he worked. What did he do with the money? Gave it to the church building fund whereby he could get his name on one of the bricks being put in the building.

I had a video camera installed in the executive conference room of our business. From any computer with Internet access I can access this camera and watch whatever is going on in that room. As I was watching an executive council meeting the other day, I was thinking that similarly God is always watching our every move. He saw the Dad pinch his kid and then pop him in the head when he cried out in order to make the other church members think he was a strict disciplinarian, and a person who made his kids tow the line in church. He saw the guy steal money in order to be recognized as someone who faithfully gave money to the church building fund. In short He sees everything that we do.

Just like an invisible radio signal God is always there wherever we are watching our every move. We should be concerned with what God thinks of us and not our fellow man. The Bible states that a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without Jesus seeing it. We do not get away with anything and we are just fooling ourselves if we think we do. God knows our every move as well as our every thought. Don’t disappoint your Savior; behave yourself today and every day. Remember there will be an accounting some day for every word we speak

Matt. 12:36
But I tell you that
men will have to give account on the day of
judgment for every careless word they have
spoken. For by your words you will be
acquitted and by your words you will be
condemned.
