Hardly a day or week goes by that I am not reminded of my early life. I was not a Christian then and did many things of which I am deeply ashamed. I have tried for decades to forgive myself, yet every day I vividly recall the mistakes that I made as a young man. God has forgiven me for my past sins and His grace extends to cover my continuing sins. Christ died on the cross for my sins and now my sin debt has been paid. The Bible states that He remembers my sins no more and that He forgives me, but I cannot forgive myself.

The Bible teaches us not to dwell on the past but instead to look to the future. It is easy to say but difficult to do. My son Michael was always a good kid, (just the opposite of me when I was growing up), but even he once scared his mother and I nearly to death. He went off with a friend of his during a fierce snowstorm and as darkness descended and we frantically looked for him, we thought he had drowned in an ice covered pond. When we finally found him alive and well, we were so happy to find him and so thankful that he was alive that tears literally streamed down our faces as we hugged him. His transgression was forgotten, yet it still bothers him that he put us through that ordeal; in fact he told his wife Michelle that it was the worst thing he ever did in his childhood. He was just a child and we forgave him years and years ago for it, but he still feels bad about it to this day. I guess that is kind of how I feel about my transgressions and my Father in heaven.

Gods love for us transends our transgressions. He sent His Son Jesus to willingly take our punishment in order that we be reunited with Him. Through our acceptance of His sacrifice coupled with our repentenace our sins are forgiven and their is great rejoicing in heaven that someone who was lost and facing certain death has been found and saved! God loves us far more than a father can ever love a son and His grace is truly amazing. I believe that God is happiest when He finds a lost son or daughter and brings them home safe and sound forever. If you are lost today, find your way to Jesus Christ; your loving Father is earnestly calling for you to come home…

Phil.3:13

…But one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are
behind and reaching forward to
those things which are ahead.
I press toward the goal for the
prize of the upward call of God in
Christ Jesus.
