I was riding to work yesterday and I heard a scraping sound every time I hit the brakes. At first I thought the car might have been dragging a limb or something similar, but it sounded different somehow. I became convinced it was the brakes or transmission. Since I only have about 10,000 miles on this car I was fuming. The more I drove the madder I got and the more I worried about whether or not my “relic” car would make it to work. I envisioned myself stranded on the side of the road in rush hour traffic. I was mad as a hornet and steam was probably coming out of both ears and nostrils as I came to a stop at yet another red light and heard the scraping noise. As I pulled to a stop I looked directly behind my seat and happened to notice the suit coat I had hanging on a hanger in the back swaying side to side. Yes the wooden hanger the coat was hanging on was making the strange scraping noise as it moved back and forth across the hard vinyl on the door. The mystery was resolved, and my anxiety was immediately lifted.
The rest of the way into work I considered what had just happened. How often do we unnecessarily worry and get all worked up over something for no logical reason? The Bible has much to say about worry and it all is pointed towards, not doing it. It is a sin to worry, and I would wager to say that it is a sin we are almost all guilty of committing in some fashion or other. Jesus talked about worry often and instructed us to put our faith in Him and in essence told us not to worry about the small stuff and as a popular book title indicates, ‘everything’ is small stuff.
Life is too short to get all worked up. The Bible tells us, “This too shall pass”, and it refers to virtually everything that is troubling you or me today. Worry makes every situation worse and solves absolutely nothing; that is one reason I believe God has designated it a sin. The other is that we do not trust God to deliver us out of every situation which He as a loving Father is going to do. Be patient, stay calm, and trust in God to deliver us I’m trying, I’m trying, but it is one difficult endeavor, trust me
Psalms 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and
He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous
fall.
This too shall pass
