We are fast approaching the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Thousands of people died and the press will want to jump all over our government again for not doing more to get people out. If they wish to assign blame, they also need to take a look at the people who decided to ignore the warnings and ride it out’. I live in a hurricane prone area and to a person no one that I personally know evacuates. My wife and I leave and they all make good natured fun of us and even pointed us out at church one day for being chickens’. As I drive out of town to the airport, I hope and pray that I do not have to attend their funerals every time I evacuate.
Noah preached his message for 120 years and aside from his own family did not convince even one person to leave with him. (Imagine having that kind of perseverance!) The rains eventually came and the great flood swept them all away. What would CNN say about that one? I’m sure they would blame Noah and God for not doing more.
The Bible tells us that as we approach the Last Days’ people will be going about their lives as they always have, marrying, conducting business, partying, living life as there is no end in sight right up until the end. Jesus told us of many signs that will tell us that we are getting near those terrible days. One in particular rings true today was that the Jews would return to the Holy Land as they did in 1947 after being scattered throughout the world for 2000 years and miraculously defeated their neighbors in just seven days of war. Jesus went on to warn us that after the Jews have returned and inhabit the Holy Land once again and when we see armies encircling the Holy Land that the “end” is within sight. Armies from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Pakistan currently encircle Israel and hate the Jews with a passion. If a forecaster was to plot this on a weather chart Israel is in the hurricane cone and time is getting short.
In spite of warnings in the Bible, and preachers spreading the Gospel via the pulpit, television, and the Internet as it has never been spread before, most people largely just ignore the warnings and go on with life as they always have done. I remember the forecasters pleading with people to leave ahead of Katrina, yet people just stubbornly dug in and decided to try and ride it out and it reminds me of this same phenomenon. No one in their right mind should want to ride out the Great Tribulation’ period where the Christians of the world will be removed and evil will prevail and will reach its worst and most furious point with the Battle of Armageddon fought in the Holy land where blood will run as high as a horse’s neck, yet they do.
I heard a friend of mine say he was sick and tired of hearing our preacher preach about such things and just wanted to hear good things when he went to church. My response was that I believed he should talk about it more. Jesus Christ warned about the Last Days’ more than anyone in the bible as He did with the dangers of going to Hell. We are to emulate Him. He did not want anyone to perish just as no one wanted those people to be blown away by Katrina. I believe we should all keep on preaching the message right up until Jesus appears in the sky to call us out of here before the Tsunami and Mother of all Hurricanes hits. It is so easy to accept Jesus as one’s Savior and oddly most people would readily do so if they could just open their eyes and envision this hurricane of all hurricanes approaching with its ugly black and ominous clouds.
Matt. 24:38
For in the days before the flood, people
were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage, up to the day Noah
entered the ark; and they knew nothing about
what would happen until the flood came and
took them all away. That is how it will be at
the coming of Jesus
Hurricane/Tsunami warnings are out
