Recently I was telling a friend of mine about my experiences sometimes when I am going through or facing problems in my life. I go to my Bible for comfort and in search of answers, and often as soon as I open my Bible and flip through the pages it will open to the very passage that deals with the very problem I am having and God’s solution to it that I seek will be staring right back at me. Let me tell you this is an uplifting experience; literally as the very hairs on my neck will stick straight up and I can feel God’s love coursing up and down my spine. A good friend of mine who is a pastor coined this experience spiritual goose bumps and that has stuck with me through the years as an apt description.

I got an e-mail from a friend over the weekend that just had this experience. It came at a good time for this person as the Bible and God have just recently re-emerged in their life and this experience provided some much needed encouragement from God. I cannot say that this works every time that I flip through my Bible and God definitely does not perform like a trained seal, but it does happen when I need Him the most. I remember when my brother took his own life and I was dealing with my overwhelming grief and searching for answers, I opened my Bible to the exact passage I needed and God provided the comfort that I needed at the exact time I needed it. Numerous times when I write WFTD I flip to the very verse that I need for that day’s devotional. It is quite cool actually.

The bottom line is we should not think of the Bible as a book’. It is not a book. It is described in the Bible as living’ and sharper than any two edged sword, “written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is of the heart”. It is not coincidence when you open the Bible to the exact passage that you need to hear; it is heavenly design. God wants us to know that He is with us always patiently watching and waiting for us to call on Him to draw near. We are assured that if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. These are not empty promises that are often broken by a corrupt and fallen world, but guarantees’ sealed by the unerring word of God who cannot lie.

The Bible is God’s primary way to communicate to His children and trust me if you are not reading it daily you are missing out on one of the great joys of life; listening to your loving heavenly Father creator of all things, almighty and powerful giving you advice, encouragement, and most of all hope and as previously described God gives this advice on a ‘personal’ basis opening your heart and mind to what he knows ‘YOU’ need to hear today. I read it every morning and so should you. Now do it

Romans 15:
For whatever things were written
before were written for our
learning, that we through the
patience and comfort of the Scriptures
might have hope.
