A friend of mine is struggling to maintain his faith. In fact I wonder sometimes if he ever found it in the first place as he is full of doubt. I am encouraging him as best I know how, but he is rather stubborn about things. One thing he does not really feel the need for is attending church and another is reading/studying the Bible. DuhhhHow can anyone have faith without doing that?
He states that God is all around and that he can worship God by simply walking though the woods or by looking over the ocean, or watching a beautiful sunrise and he would rather do any of that than attend church or read a Bible. While it is true that indeed God is everywhere and praying in solitude in the forest, or overlooking the ocean, or watching a beautiful sunrise or sunset, or simply standing upon a summit of a mountain and gazing upon God’s wonderful creation is an uplifting experience; it is no substitute for hearing the word of God. Faith comes through hearing the word of God, make no mistake about it.
Those who want to just somehow ‘absorb’ God through osmosis or whatever by strolling through nature trails or watching a sunrise will not enhance their faith unless it is complemented by reading or hearing the word of God. God who cannot lie has told us that. So if you want your faith to be strong whereby you do not have doubts, listen to the word of God
Romans 10:17
So faith comes by hearing
and hearing by the word of God.
