I watched the Republican convention last night and was duly impressed. One thing that speaker Nickie Hailey had to say was she had been telling her unconvinced friends that although she didn’t agree with Trump on every single issue, she did agree with him on more issues than not. and she gave him her wholehearted support.
In other words, she might be appalled at some of the things that come out of his mouth, but she does not condemn him for it. I thought of my own feelings towards him and I’m not going to allow his bad traits such as his use of profanity (of which I am guilty myself) or other bad behavior to convince me to vote for a Democrat who is ten times worse.
Since no one on earth is “perfect” and I’m not the judge of mankind my conscience is clear when I vote for him. This makes it easy to just pick out the best qualified person and vote for him or her.
I had a friend who was having a huge fight with his father. His father had been good to him all his life but drew a line and was vehemently opposed to a girlfriend that he wanted to marry. and he insisted that he protect himself with a prenup just in case he was right. My friend got super angry at his father and told me he was going to stop so much as talking to him. I strongly advised him not to do it, telling him to look at his father’s entire life and his “body of work” and not a single issue. I told him that would be like taking a single page out of a large book and using it to make make such a rash decision. He took my advice and soon realized that this incident is the only case in which his father had spoken out against what he planned to do. He took another look at it and asked his girlfriend to sign the prenup just to bring peace but instead, she went totally ballistic. He decided she was not right for him and broke off their engagement. His father was overjoyed. Soon thereafter he discovered that his girlfriend had been running around on him and he is still thanking me today for talking him off that ledge.
As for voting for Trump I have looked at his “body of work” rather than singular incidents to include his brush with death and his courageous reaction to it last Saturday, and quickly decided to vote for him despite his weaknesses. I also believe he was spared from the assassin’s bullet at the last possible moment when he slightly turned his head and the bullet missed his brain by a millimeter or two. The good Lord spared him that day for a purpose. I do believe in miracles, and I have had more than my fair share of them. God told us we each have a purpose in this life. I want to fulfill mine! I believe Trump’s purpose is not only to win the election but more importantly for him to know that there is a God and He loves him. Who can go against providence. As far as his weaknesses, well I know he will be working on them and if he strays, he just needs to put his finger in the hole going through his ear to get him back to where he should be.
Psalm 56:3
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
