Like a dimwit I watched part of the debate with DeSantis and Newsome last night. It is amazing to me that statistics are put on the screen and Newsome simply said they are all a lie. I mean the sales tax is recorded for all to see just like the number of people leaving the state, or state income tax comparisons. These are just facts and yet the politicians just pretend like they don’t exist. I wasn’t going to watch the debate. I figured it would be exactly as it was, a pack of lies, but my Bible study partner had convinced me to watch it. I cannot believe I fell for it.
Politics is reprehensible and is largely a money game. Those who are running for office must have hides thick as an elephant because they are called every name in the book and a few that aren’t. Money, power, and ego seem to drive them to doing things a normal person would never do. If the money is right whether it originates from China, Russia, Hamas, or wherever they can be bought off as can the media.
I spent quite some time working in the government sector in Washington D.C. during my business career and can personally attest to how corrupt it is. I met with a Chicago school superintendent one time and after my presentation he took me into a little room and said in a menacing voice that he knew we had the best software on the market, and it would no doubt help the Chicago public school system. But then he said, “But what is it going to do for me?” All the while he was carrying a Billy club around with him and even slammed it on the table when he solicited his bribe. His problem was that I was not intimidated by his little club or him and I answered by saying, Glory? He looked confused so I amplified it by saying he would receive all the glory for making the school system better. I didn’t get the job, but I walked away with my integrity.
I went to a congressman in D.C. and was pitching software for the Department of Defense. He first told one of the raunchiest, filthiest, “jokes” I’ve ever heard with an office full of young intern women present. He sent them off after he told his joke (that no one laughed at but him) and openly solicited a $10,000 “donation” to help fund his reelection. He openly said that “the palm had to be greased in D.C. to get anything done. I packed up my stuff and left without a word. I got that job on my own albeit it took several years of hoof work.
I could go on and on about politicians (and worse, lobbyists) but nothing has changed in all these years since biblical times. My best friend for many years was a lobbyist and was making huge money. He just quit one day and said he could not be involved anymore. Things were just too corrupt.
I long for the day when Jesus returns and rules the earth Himself. Until then with very few exceptions we are condemned to be ruled by corrupt, immoral, morons that I wouldn’t invite to my home on a rainy day with tornado warnings everywhere. Jesus will offer an alternative to what we have seen to date when He directly rules on earth.
After His death and resurrection, Jesus ascended into the heavens, while His disciples stood awestruck and attending angels made this promise: “This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). Unlike the first incarnation however, where our Savior’s full deity was cloaked in His humanity the Second Coming of Christ will be visible to everyone on planet Earth. “For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
For the believer who has placed his faith in Christ’s atoning work on the cross, it will be a time of great rejoicing. The dead in Christ, and those alive at His coming, will receive new, redeemed bodies.
For the unbeliever, however, it will be a time of terror and dismay, as they see the Savior they have rejected and scorned coming in great power and glory. Fear and trembling will overwhelm them as they await their final judgment and assignment to hell’s lake of never-ending fire. It is my prayer that your love for the Savior will encourage you in the faith no matter what these politicians and money machines do. Death, sin, sickness, and every form of evil will be done away with as Jesus returns to establish His Kingdom. No more tears, no more pain, no more despair.
