Lately I received some really good news. With all of the hurricanes and various other negative business pressures I have endured as of late, I had been in the “valley” too long, and it was a welcome relief to finally receive some excellent news. It seems odd to me as to how good news is received versus bad news in relationship to God’s role in our lives and events that happen. Invariably we want to assume that when bad things happen, God must have a hand in it. But often, we all but ignore Him when something good happens. In short we sometimes want to blame God whenever something really bad happens in our lives and ignore Him when good things happen.
Can you envision receiving a big raise, bonus, sales commission, finally getting that car or house of your dreams and instinctively and thankfully getting on your knees and giving God the glory for blessing you so greatly? Or would you congratulate yourself on being so smart and hard-working and take the credit yourself for “your” great achievement?
(Be honest now.) Many of us only identify God’s hand in our lives during bad times. When everything is falling down and our lives are crumbling before our very eyes we ask God why He is allowing it to happen to us and we cry out to the Lord for relief; yet when the relief comes and we are on the peak of the mountain again, we sometimes have a tendency to ignore Him.
The Bible tells us that “every” good gift comes from above. We should give thanks to the Lord when a good thing comes our way. We should realize that every talent that we possess is handed down from God. We are shaped and molded by Him and created specifically for His purpose.
Give God the credit for the good gifts He has given to you and your family…
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect
gift is from above, and comes
down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or
shadow of turning.
