I received quite a few responses concerning yesterday’s post. One reader was particularly sharp when contesting my comment on my statement that there will be no doctors in heaven. Apparently, she knows some saintly doctors who will surely join Jesus in heaven.

Hmmm…Probably should have said there will be no more reason for their services as our bodies will never break down again in heaven, but it was eagle eyed of her to notice my choice of words. At least she is reading it.

My Bible study partner wrote about Clint Eastwood. He sent me the following link for a video with a song sung by Toby Keith, “Don’t let the old man in” that highlights Eastwood. The lyrics in this song are very interesting:

Don’t let the old man in
I wanna leave this alone
Can’t leave it up to him
He’s knocking on my door
And I knew all of my life
That someday it would end
Get up and go outside
Don’t let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born
Try to love on your wife
And stay close to your friends
Toast each sundown with wine
Don’t let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born
When he rides up on his horse
And you feel that cold bitter wind
Look out your window and smile
Don’t let the old man in

My buddy sent the link which included footage of 92-year-old Eastwood pruning flowers in his flower garden. My Bible study partner then included this colorful remark:  When rough and tough Clint Eastwood is pruning his flower bed . . . but still kicking ass in his 90’s – I want some of that!

We happen to be studying the book of James and the lesson for today, in part, was about swearing. During the lesson review my buddy wrote: “And then a side note about language which I’ll admit both of us could probably use a little help in? “Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear”. . . I’m certainly guilty of shouting or mouthing some obscenity every time I stub my toe, or at someone who cuts me off in traffic etc.

I wrote him back and asked if he kissed his mama with that nasty mouth and that ours was a Bible study and today’s lesson was about using bad language. LOL

Then I quoted another nugget that he sent for today’s lesson to him: “Todays reading finishes with a powerful message about pulling our friends up who have fallen into the ditch “remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.” We have opportunities daily to help guide friends like him back and should be doing that instead of standing by, hence my outing him for his poor behavior. LOL As an added benefit my rebuke of him is not just serving as a guide for him, but perhaps will lessen the impact of some of my sins.

Another reader wrote the following: “Had to chuckle just a little about your rotator cuff story.  A friend of mine, fellow airline pilot (both now too-olds), stopped by one day, seems like it was in November, and he was on medical leave because of a rotator cuff.  It hurt too bad to reach up and flip switches on the overhead panel of the Boeing.  But it didn’t hurt when he drew the bow back to go deer hunting.”

Perhaps it is conscience or paranoia, but I think he might have been aiming that at me. For the record I use a rifle and not a bow this time of year for deer hunting.

Well, this words for the Day post is scattered all over the board and quite possible the worst I have ever written, but hopefully you got something out of it. I like to laugh and have a good time and perhaps my musings and banter with friends is part of the way I don’t let the old man in. On a serious note I hope you will watch the short video, it is very well done. I found it to be powerful and inspiring. Think about the question the songwriter wrote: Ask yourself how would you be – If you didn’t know the day you were born.

I think many of us would be quite different and perhaps enjoy things in life more, especially when it comes to smiling and enjoying lighthearted banter with friends. We don’t have to go through scowling at the bad news and disgusting, evil things that occur in society, or our health. The world is a mess, sometimes our bodies are too. Lighten up, and just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don’t get so worked up about things. The most beautiful Smile is the one that struggles through Tears.

Proverbs 15:13
“A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit. A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash. For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.”

Have a great weekend and go to church this weekend.
