I want to be a witness

I was on the plane the other night and had a great conversation with a young man. The conversation turned to the spiritual realm and he had many troubling questions about God. It was obvious that he knew nothing about the Bible and his belief system was a big question mark. I shared with him how I once was agnostic/atheist and in addition to that a complete reprobate. I shared with him how I had turned from that life and how I had discovered God. I contrasted my life “then” and how much better it was now. I told him what it mean’s to have God in your life versus an empty hole. He was keenly interested and “hungry” for this testimony. It turns out that his Father had recently died as well as two Uncles who were very close to him. He badly needs God in his life, particularly right now. I am convinced that subsequent to our conversation that this young man has re-evaluated his belief system and will be making some good changes in his life.

Often we wonder how any good could possibly come out of evil. My early life was evil, but the testimony of how I turned from it has helped this young man and others. I was thinking that if I had not started a conversation with this young man, he might not have ever had the salvation plan explained to him. There are serious stakes involved here too. It could mean for this young man the difference in an eternity separated from God, or an eternity spent with God in paradise. It is not that hard to witness to others. I urge you to give it a try. I have found that it becomes easier every time I do it.

I regret those early days of my life when I was so mixed up and lost. I take comfort now in the following.

Let him know that he who turns
a sinner from the error of his way
will save a soul from death and
cover a multitude of sins.
